Are we going to Hell in a handcart and whose fault is it?

I think we've already established that it's my fault BoroMart. I created man in my own image and I'm a bit of a tw@t so it was always doomed to failure right from the start.
Boris Johnson looks a bit bumfaced. Is there something you're not telling us?

You’re all such self proclaimed socialist holy empaths that any time someone offers up a different view to your own you insult them.

the opening post was someone apparently in a state of distress over the mere thought of checking the news. I offered a solution that has worked for me in the past, when I was younger and similarly troubled.
these days I read more news, but because of the acknowledgement of the disparity between my own reality and the news I discovered undertaking such periods of isolation I am able to do so and live a fulfilling life free of such anxieties.

and yet insults flow.

Is it better to live in a state of constant anxiety? Does that help anyone, does it solve any of the issues? No.
Head in the sand, Lalalaland.
Get a grip. Just because you seemingly enjoy wallowing in the state of the nation doesn’t mean everyone else does or should.

"I don’t need to know that some young woman was murdered walking to her pals house or that our country is responsible for the deaths of many young children in Afghanistan"

This has to be one of the most selfish statements I've read in many a year.

you sound like you're wallowing in the state of the nation to be quite honest

Don’t watch the news for a month and see how you feel based solely on what you personally experience day to day, your reality.

I haven’t noticed most of those things you mention.

I did have to buy chicken thighs rather than breast the other day as Aldi didn’t have any. But I’ll get over it - i prefer them anyway, was just trying to reduce fat intake. Local Co op had plenty of breast like but I refuse to pay their prices. Not the end of the world.

some people might be ****ed, most will be okay. But it’s never been any different. There are fewer people in the first category now than there was in my youth, certainly.
Essentially pretend none of this is happening and it might go away

Judging by that last statement im guessing you voted for this?

Forgive me for not having read through the whole thread but it's come to a stage for me where I'm personally refusing to watch the news- be that local, national or international.

I fully appreciate that this may come across as insular but honestly after the past few years of issues, I genuinely need some retreat from the constant (even though understandable) negativety.

Covid has taken enough of a toll as it is without having to face up the years of challenges ahead that we face because of a small minority of people across the country.

I understand that it's very selfish - but I'm trying my best to share time that I have with family and friends and making the most of the positives in the world rather than keeping up with the constant bad news that's being delivered.

I appreciate that it's not ideal but fcuk me it's miserable otherwise.

I literally do not need to know, though. And a few decades ago, when information did not flow so freely, I would not have. Having deaths beamed to your pocket 24 hours a day is not desirable or helpful for many people. We are not equipped for it.
Do you remember the names of the many other people murdered this year, say a prayer for them every morning, keep them in your thoughts? No you forget them when they fall out of the news cycle like everyone else. We remember the shocking ones perhaps, the famous ones. That’s not crass it’s reality.

Do not confuse my not needing to know what horrors are occurring in the world at this present moment with not caring. I cared so much about the troubles of the world as a younger man that I ended up In therapy and medicated.

Empathy: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another

Many of you are rather narrow minded for such lovely people

My message was simple, maybe consume less news and judge things based on your own lived experience. It worked for me, maybe it will help you. Try it and see.
And your responses seem to suggest that taking such steps to facilitate your own happiness are somehow less valid.
You’re one step short of saying Real men read the news. Do you just want people to be unhappy? If someone has a way of living that works for them why would you mock it so readily? I can only assume you want people to be as angry or as disappointed as you are and That people happily going on with their lives, less affected by the worsening of the country, is somehow troubling to you.
I just don’t get it.

I’m beginning to doubt the internet is even populated by real people when reading responses like this. it’s like a bot or AI or something. Is that really all you see? Does it all come down to who’s responsible, which way someone voted?

As I have said before on this forum, I’ve only ever voted for the Labour Party. One year I wanted to vote green but there was no candidate standing. I also voted remain and I think brexit was a stupid idea. Does that qualify me to be in your gang? Can you consider my opinions now?

Dont apologise for looking after your mental wellbeing mate (y)

12 years of rule from people who serve themselves and their donors and a predominantly billionaire owned right wing press. Couple that with some easily targeted Labour leaders (David Milliband would have won that election) and the destruction of the lib dems during the coalition essentially offering little effective resistance or control of narrative and here we are.

It's feels like we're becoming a 3rd world nation. Empty supermarket shelves, queues at petrol stations, corruption rife amongst the elite and a government acting like a dictatorship.
We are. Northern Europe's North Korea.

Even I thought "project fear" was going to extremes. Turns out it was presenting a best case scenario that we didn't meet.

So in answer to the OP: it's brexit. It's causing or exacerbating every single problem

sh1t things happen in life, and there are periods of extreme sh1tness (that can last quite a while) BUT life itself is NOT sh1t..... its amazing, the world & nature on it are beautiful & incredible. the tricky bit is being able to see this, even when the sh1t happens. never give up man.
This. As I said earlier, I do think the UK has basically had it, but nothing this sh*tty, inept, utterly corrupt government do stops my personal happiness. Life can be great in (almost) whatever circumstances surround us. Every cracked pavement, every broken down corner can contain wonder. You just need to look with the right eyes.
