Aston Villa

You'd have to think we'll be at the front of the queue for both?

They've both clearly loved their time here and have flourished, a second season with the same club and same staff could sway Villa.

We seem to have a pretty decent relationship with Villa so hopefully we can go out and get them back nice and early

Yeah, a full season at one club they have a good relationship with too and that play football in a good way and should be challenging at the top of the division may seal the deal. If Villa genuinely do sign Asensio then there is no chance for Aaron Ramsey to get a look in next season.

Archer one may drag on a bit but hopefully we get them both in on loan.

Villa were linked with Abraham. If they get him (or similar), with Watkins, and John Duran then he’d only be 4th choice cf and they have other wide forwards than can cover CF too. I think archer will still be surplus for them

Love both of them back on loan.

Villa will go big this summer I feel. I think it'll be one of the things Unai insisted on, when he joined. And Archer/Ramsey will probably be overlooked.

The fact Villa are pushing hard up the league, I think they may be happy to sell/loan a few more of their fringe players out again.

The current drop off between Watkins to Archer would probably be too big of a risk for Emery to take, even in the cup competitions.

I agree. Villa’s success certainly helps our case of getting the lads back.

Unai Emery is one of the best managers in Europe. Aston Villa are very lucky to have him.

I assume the Danks thing could be critical. I think he is focused on individual player development coaching, which he'll obviously have done with them at Villa and now here. If the Villa hierarchy were happy with what we were doing with them last season, you would assume they would be happy to let them return. Unless we are outbid by one of the relegated teams of course.

If one of the relegated teams come in and offer £25m for Archer.......Villa will probably be daft to turn it down. Stick a decent sell on clause, win/win.

But Leicester have financial constraints, Southampton.....would they pay that much? and Leeds are a train wreck.

So, if Villa do go big - Asensio and Abraham - puts us in a very good position to get them back on loan. Villa can't really lose, get a season to develop them further and if it's successful get two first team ready players or a few quid back if they decide to sell.

Definitely agree we need any deals sorting early, can't let them drag on.

Sorry, I meant more loan fee and percentage of wages they could offer (although I think we'd be paying 100% anyway). More than actual bids to buy, but that too.

I'd say Leicester will definitely need a striker and will have cash from selling a few high profile names.

Saints have a track record of spending on promising youngsters but I think they've got two more than capable starters anyway. Not sure on Leeds with their ownership up in the air (rumoured) and Bamford being almost permanently crocked, when he is playing less games in a less physical league. I can see Leeds definitely losing a few and signing a striker too.

Yeah, fair point. This loan fee / wages can add up.

So, really, everything will boil down to Villa and what their short/medium term plans are and whether Archer and Ramsey are seen as part of them.

I was actually in two minds as to whether I wanted Villa to get into Europe the other day, purely because of both Ramsey and Archer. Now they're in, they'll have plenty more games to fit in (obviously depending on their success) and my fear is that they may want to keep one/both around the squad. Both young and homegrown, so I don't think they'd need to be registered in a squad? In the Prem anyway.

Here's hoping they do go big though and we can get them both back.

Good point that, Danks was no doubt pivotal in bringing them here, and would hopefully hold a lot of sway in briging them back.

They went big last year. Signed Coutinho etc. Think for Archer they'll be wanting a sale, which we probably can't afford or a PL/European loan which we can't do. Ramsey I see as a possibility because he had injuries so didn't finish a full season.

To be fair Archer has never played a full season either. He had 5 months at Preston and then back to villas reserves for 6 months, then 5 more months with us.

I don’t think he is prem ready, he needs a full campaign on loan as a starter and that is likely to be in the championship

Surely because they have qualified for Europe the will want a bigger squad. It’s not the champions league they have qualified for just the Europa conference league.
Standard till later rounds is pretty low. So they may want Archer and Ramsey for that and leave Watkins and others for Prem

Hopefully they go out and spend a fecking fortune. I'm sure they will back the gaffer after a tremendous season.

That would free up Archer and Ramsey to come back. I mean I'd even take one of them.

You'd think we would be near top of the que. That said I'm sure any champo club will look at Archer. The likes of the 3 who've come down will have some financial muscle.

They may have another 1 or 2 that Danks has the inside track on👍

I think both would be amazing. We were just starting to see how good Ramsey was. He looks a 'right player'. I think we have more chance with him out of the two. I feel 'everyone' will want Archer. That includes some prem clubs.

I think @h_m_boro is right about Archer. There's more chance of another club coming in from the Prem and taking him on loan or signing him which will mean we miss out. Ramsay is more of realistic target for us on loan.

Don't think there's much chance at all of Archer going out on loan to a Premier League club.

He'll either be sold, loaned out to the Championship or kept in Villa's squad because of their number of games.

The fact they are in Europe may change a few things. More games and home grown mean they maybe worth having around.

That said its a waste of development. I'm sure Archer had played something like 23mins of prem football prior to joining us in Jan. What a waste of talent.
