At least freeports are a benefit, right?

BBC Question Time (available on i Player) 27/1/22 - around 75% into the programme.

"We (UK) have the most imbalanced regional economies in the developed World"

Liam Halligan - Panelist, economist, author, broadcaster, lives in London and works in London and brought up in London.

No one disagreed.
Pro brexit TV program makes a statement

I guess the burden of proof is low on this board 🤣

This is not a game

The UK has major economic imblances between its regions particularly between areas such as the North East and London/South East and they have grown since 1979 that is why some form of economic incentive is required.

Here is an excellent article that highlights the economic inequalities across the UK.

The most interesting graph is the bar chart which shows the North East had the highest discrepancy between output and income, by some way. This means we produce far more in gdp when compared to salaries.

We are being robbed and whilst I am sure other areas are poor, they are not as poor as the North East nor as productive.

I am aware its not a game. Just it's also nothing to do with Brexit. You beloved brexit is making the country more poor. Do you believe the rich parts of the country will struggle the most, or the already poor parts?

Do you think making an entire country more poor will correct an economic imbalance or highlight it?

ST - I want areas like Teesside to prosper while you appear are not bothered and prefer to criticise any measures that possibly could improve Teesside. You appear more interested in promoting the EU. I want measures to raising economic activity in left behind areas which is not to same as reducing economic activity in others. Its not a Zero Sum game to me. (I win you lose) By raising economic acivity in left behind areas, all UK areas can win. I believe Boris Johnson has said the same who he is leader of the party you vote for?

I have no special infinity to Brexit while you are almost obsessed with it as other posters have previously mentioned.

Did you mean affinity? Also, believing Boris Johnson shows your level of gullibility.

You didn't answer my question. Now Brexit is making the country more poor: Do you think this will address the economic imbalance?

He didn't say that he believed BJ, just he believed (assumed) that he had said it.

Just give it a rest with baiting people and ruining good conversations eh?

Not baiting and not "ruining a good conversation" It was the very topic of this conversation: The fact that this so called brexit benefit simply wasn't.

We'll wait to see what old red has to say about how making a country poorer will help the economic imbalance. I'm curious

Young Wippa Snappy,

I think you have had too much wine.

If you don't believe in what is propsed by the Government and anything to do with Freeports

Whats your solution to the North East's relative economic decline?

Not answering my question I see. I wonder why that is

The way freeports can be implemented in the uk wasn't possible inside the EU. That's a fact, not opinion.

It doesn't make brexit worthwhile of course but does make the opening post wrong.
