Safe to say it's a 2 horse race between Messi & Lewandowski.

Could the 🐐 make it a 7th Ballon D'or?

Or will Lewandowski win it?

Lewandowski was certainly robbed of it last year with the cancellation due to COVID-19.

Whoever wins it would be deserving winners. There's not a chance Argentina would have won the Copa America this year if it wasn't for Messi's incredible performances.

And Lewandowski's numbers this year (carrying on from last year too) are just staggering.

Jorginho would've been a shoo-in until Italy didn't qualify automatically from their Euros group. It'll be Messi.
Don't get the Jorginho love.

He wasn't Chelsea's best player when winning the CL.

He wasn't Italy's best player when winning the Euros.

He was just fortunate he was part of both winning teams.

He's a great player, no doubt about it.

Ballon D'or level? Not a chance.

On goal stats alone it should be Lewandowski, but I think the Copa America and the huge part Messi played in them winning it will be what swung it for voters.

I agree, but the Ballon d'Or has historically been very trophy-dependent as opposed to just performance. Modric comes to mind (although he had a far better season than Jorginho did when he won it).

Good to see that 3 out of the 10 u21 nominees are English as well.

Bellingham probably has an outside chance for that one but think it will go (correctly) to Pedri.

Lewa's class, reminds me a lot of Marco Van Basten. Messi really shouldn't win if the last three months are taken into account, should be an even spread of the year's contribution.

I agree it should be for the whole of 2021 if you're doing it for the calendar year, but the vote was on the 24th of October.

Messi had only played 10 games this season at that point (7 goals), and only 6 of those games were at club level.

Though I suppose injuries/fitness shouldn't be an excuse when it comes to these things, as everyone suffers from them.

Love messi as much as anyone but I think Lewandowski has the best footballer in the world overall this year. I think the copa America will give Messi the voters edge. I fancy Salah to win the next one.

Messi has scored 1 league goal since early May, its now nearly December 😕

For reference, Lewa has scored 19 in the same period.

Wow that’s insane. I was thinking what has Messi done to deserve it this year, but thats pretty clear.
To be honest though, a lot of those 'stats' would heavily favour any mazy dribbling winger forward type over a traditional central striker wouldn't they?

As in passes and assists in midfield, taking set pieces etc.
