Has declared for the USMNT.

Interesting choice, apparently got sick of waiting for a full England call up. I think he's a good player who we didn't see the best of at Boro. That said, demanding full England honours after one decent season in France shows he's perhaps not best advised.

Yunus Musah, who is a v good player, made a similar choice and it seems to have worked out for him. Time will tell if England have missed out on one or not.

Seems a little shortsighted. I guess with the next World Cup in North America, will boost his profile and maybe that was where the 'advice' was coming from. Be interesting to see if Arsenal give him a chance next season or look to cash in. He's probably valued similar to Archer, maybe cheaper. Totally different players, but will be interesting to see, which of the two could hack it in the prem and have a really good career.

I think that is probably agent's spin! More likely he can see who is in front of him and thinks there is very little chance of getting near the team any time soon so has gone with the best option for him

Probably a good decision tbh, can't imagine he'd ever really get a look-in with England, whereas he's likely to be a regular in the US squad.

Not sure England ever really tend to make much of a big effort to try and get players to commit to the England national team really. Wonder how hard they tried, if they tried at all, to convince Jamal Musiala for example.

England are a bit short on the striker front especially with Harry getting on a bit now. Not sure who is best to step up.

Kane isn't even 30 for a few months yet, and he's never been reliant on pace.

I can't see him needing replacing for a long while yet, barring a serious injury.

David Nugent. Ireland were interested, so was picked by England v Andorra. That's why he only played one match. Oh, and had better players ahead of him (I liked Nugent btw)

Kane, Toney are the best two.. then, IMHO: Abrahams... Watkins, Wilson & rest are pretty much of a muchness... I really think Archer could get close to the first team if he can get a regular run in a team - hopefully Boro in the PL.. as he seems such a natural..

I think Balogun will get regular starts for USA & may get him a Green Card to live there later though on a footballing stance seems a little self defeating & he'd count as overseas for any English based team so that is a limiting factor for his career too, maybe..

He doesn't need a Green Card as he's a citizen. Born in Brooklyn.

There's no rule restricting overseas players as such. The restriction is on 'non home grown' players.

'Home grown' means that a player must have been on the books of a club affiliated with the Football Association for at least three years before they turn 21 – no matter what their nationality.

Balogun has been with Arsenal since he was 8 years old so he'll always count as a home grown player.

Even if that weren't the case, just playing football for the team of a country doesn't affect a person's nationality. He'd still be a UK national, even if he plays for the US.

....however, apart from the Home grown rule & being a US Citizen already.... what has Balogun ever done for us... ;-)

The Guardian is running an article on this and states that he could be the final piece in the jigsaw of them winning the World Cup in 2026.

I think Eric Wynalda might be getting a bit carried away. Comparing him to Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo 🤯

Going to win the world cup in 2026?

Isn't their best midfielder currently stinking the place out at Leeds this season?

Americans eh?
