Bilic sacked. Wilder to take over

Akpom will score the winner, who Wilder made train with the u21’s
He did but he also gave him another chance at having a successful season for the first time in his senior career, plenty of posters on here had Akpom written off even after he came back and was obviously a different player at the start of the season

Any news on who his coaches will be? Knills is well known to be the brains behind his success at Sheff United, we still have a couple of coaches he brought in dont we, Fettis one of them? Be very surprised if any departed us for him now.

Personally I’d love to play his team, I reckon our players would be as up for that game as Sheff United were when they smashed us last season. Akpom, Forss, Fry, and even Hackney would love to get one over him.

Their run in is very forgiving.

I wouldn't be shocked.
Our games were also very forgiving when Wilder was in charge, his last two home games, Cardiff & Rotherham loss draw, hence why he was sacked a week later after Coventry defeat.
Wilder won't have the players to play his style at Watford, I will be shocked if they reach the playoffs now.

When Edwards took over Watford he had them playing 3 at the back. Part of the reason we were interested him to replace Wilder is that he was thought to play a fairly similar style.
It'll be interesting to see if Wilder starts with "his" system or whether he sticks with the 4-2-3-1 that Bilic was using. If he moves away from 3-5-2 then it may be that he has actually been re-examining himself since he got sacked by us. If he goes straight to 3-5-2 then he's still trying to prove a point.
Anyway, real wildcard in the play-off race now.

Hope he fails miserably, I might be in the minority but I'm not massively worried. He's a divisive character as we saw here and obviously a poor man manager.

His football was great to watch here but it felt more like a gimmick than a style that can be used long term. His last 2 jobs saw great spells playing 3-5-2 but once teams sussed out how to play against it, it became disastrous. Opposition managers sussed him out a lot quicker (with us) than they did at Sheff United prior to us and they'll suss it out even quicker this time.

I'm sure they'll get an initial bounce but I'm not sure he's gonna lead them to promotion and I've no doubt he'll leave on bad terms and be gone by the summer.

11 games.
He took over our squad in a worse position, with weaker players, and got 23 points in the first 11 games.

They'd probably be in the play-offs with that return.

There's also an international break after next Saturday.

I hope he **** up, but it's got me concerned.
This is my line of thinking, I think he might get a bounce out of them until the end of the season, get a new contract then it will all implode next season for him.

As far as play offs go, I'd prefer to be facing the likes of Blackburn, Millwall and Luton, rather than Watford, West Brom and Norwich.

My theory is that recently relegated teams may have players who have struggled to get up for the week to week grind of the championship, but who can lift themselves for the big occasions. I started thinking this when newly relegated QPR, Norwich and Hull were promoted via the playoffs in successive years. They had disappointed during the regular season, when teams without parachute payments got automatic promotion.

I don't know it is actually true in the bigger picture; I'll have to work it out one day.

That's got be nervous, I won't lie.

He's a good manager, just one who acted poorly at the end.
Yup, agree with all of that apart form the ending bit.

I just think us playing well and not getting results, or any luck really screwed his head up, so much that he wouldn't try anything new like putting in hackney or changing style to stop a rut. He must have been thinking that if he tries something like putting in Hackney or one of the others, or to change playing style or managing style and dropping Jones, Dijsteele etc, then if it went wrong he would look like a moron/ desperate. He was sort of in a hole, but didn't want to risk climbing the ladder, and the hole was getting deeper.

For Leo, it was easy to break away from that, as there was no real pressure on him, as nobody really expected better. It sort of lifted the lid on the pressure cooker and give the lads chance for a reset, and take some pressure off them.

Carrick came in sort of with a clean slate, no major expectations, and still with a very good squad (which has been improved), and he's taken advantage of it. His managerial approach, with less of a hard-line style seems to suit our squad better also.

Can see him doing well. Watfords fixtures look pretty winnable apart from coventry, luton and sunderland ....allaway. The rest look winnable. No really big games against the top 6 apart from luton

I've just looked at Watford's fixtures and if they don't take 12 points from the next four there is something wrong. It will also make Wilder look like a world beater. The game after that against Luton will be difficult but then they have Huddersfield at home.

Preston - H
QPR - A
Birmingham - H
Wigan - H
Luton - A
Huddersfield - H

He's inheriting of the best (the best?) squad in the Championship. Not sure it's a perfect match for his style of football but I'd expect results between now and the end of the season.
