Soon as he posted his headed home debut goal v Birmingham September 1977 he was bombarded with comments from Boro fans, all good may I add, I've been friends on FB with Billy for a number of years, often post about matches & photos he was involved in, great looking back & talking about Ayresome Park, especially with it being 25 years since we left

Always liked Billy. He had his flaws like everyone does, but he was always fully commited. He also proved a decent enough centre back too when switched.

10 yr old in the boys end,looking older due to silver paint pellet that smashed me just above the eye.Character building tho mate.

Just realised I went by myself to that one too,liberal parents or busy with the other 3,I can't remember.

He did used to have a pub in the Birkenhead region, I think. Now a driving instructor.
He was the first player I remember at my first game. When I saw him wearing the Boro shirt, I knew we couldn’t lose with such a giant on our side. Think I was about 5 or 6

Maybe I have the rose tinted glasses on but I remember him at his best as a ball playing central defender. I once saw him take a ball on his chest and make a Cruyff turn to lose the forward that was breathing down his neck. We thought we had a new Beckenbauer.
