Booing National Anthem ( South Stand)

I'd guess the vast majority didn't give it a moment's thought and just joined in because they were invited to.

As with politics, the vast majority don't really pay attention, or care, outside of a brief moment when they may go and vote.

It's a peculiar affliction of the English. Only happy when they're moaning about something they could have easily prevented.
1. I’d guess that people are far more sensible than you give them credit for.
2. You insult the average voters intelligence
3. Racist comment against the English, didn’t realise we are all the same, , well done you, you must be proud.

🤷‍♂️

Because they obviously couldn’t understand the magnitude of the occasion this weekend, maybe driven by the new seemingly cool anti monarchy drive at the moment, thankfully the people spoke today and the minority were left as that.
What if they did understand the magnitude of the occasion, but still disagreed with it? Like many many others did?

Now that's someone who deserved a round of applause. RIP Jordan.

The way I see it, everyone will have their own opinion on the Royal family. Some have their own thoughts on the death of Princess Diana, Prince Andrew, cost to the taxpayer etc.

Each to their own, I wouldn’t boo myself but I'm not bothered by others doing so either. More important things to worry about in life.
Thanks for your respect 18MFC86 . I only noticed time on little screen looking from South west to north west corner . Started clapping myself at about 27 mins 10 seconds . Simultaneously clapping from all sides of ground 👏. At first thought nowt was happening so felt disappointed but within next minute I was buzzing for Jordan . Seriously my whole body tingled for him . What a brave lad he was . The Boro apart from his very loving family was his life ❤️ ♥️

Loads of people on twitter getting in a right little mood because some fans booed it, or as some of RF did, turned their back.

Wonder if they also criticised fans who boo players taking the knee? 🤔

Personally I stood up but didn’t sing along.
Difference between those two is one is racist booing and punching down on minorities, the other is people wanting political change booing upwards to the establishment

Well done all who drowned out the very small number of boo’s and the minor negatives. Boro were very loud and proud singing the anthem, so much so, i had a tear, well done all, you sent the right message to the republicans. Proud of you all 👍
the ‘right message’ haha my word

The majority seemed to disagree this afternoon, but crack on.
I don’t think the number of people you assume are singing at a football match is a litmus test for support for the monarchy.

It’s up to 45% that don’t agree with having a monarchy now. When you factor in the age demographics and the massive u25s against monarchy then it’s inevitable that support for a republic will reach a critical mass sometime in the next 50 years.

I’ve never claimed they didn’t. Is that how it works? The majority join in so that’s the end of any alternative proposal or debate?
It’s a shrinking majority in this country, how many people sing the anthem at a football match isn’t really a poll. There are plenty of proper polls that show only 29% of people are strongly monarchist, a record low.

The royal family will never be abolished, it’s not something that will ever happen.

Support by age group tells a story, it’s a very different picture in 50 years time based on that

It doesn't necessarily need abolishing in the first instance. Just slowly reducing political influence/interference and paring down the numbers of royals feeding from the public teat.

There's also the rest of the aristocracy (and the various levels of access for religious figures) that are involved in running the country without ever having to have stood for election.

We won't turn into a republic overnight and I wouldn't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but we should be able to have adult conversations about it.

This weekend has once again shown that the thin veneer of democracy we enjoy is very much an act of appeasement and not equality.
