Boro and the curse of opening day......

Somebody with a better memory than me will be able to confirm, but haven't we won our opening day fixture something like twice in 15-20 years?

So this afty, we know the squad is threadbare, we know we are 5-6-7 players short, we know players will be coming in, let's just get behind the team and if we do lose or draw it's not the end of the world. WBA are a decent team and will be in the mix, same as us.

Let's keep the moaning to a minimum, be positive. Long long way to go.

Last time we won our opening game was August 2014 when we beat Birmingham 2-0.

You have then go back to August 2008 when we beat Spurs on the opening day.

And before that August 2000 when we beat Coventry.

I'm fully expecting a full meltdown by some if we lose. That or writing a player off after 10mins. I think some of those bed sheets could need a wash later lol.

It's true though we don't win many. Just like last season (at Fulham) it's definitely a tough start.

I'm pretty confident. Although WBA have a couple of great additions in Swift and Wallace.

2-0 Boro 👍

But like Fulham last season, no form or momentum built up, we could win this today and think we will.

I am fully expecting us to lose today against a strong WBA team and us being so threadbare in midfield and up top, a draw would be decent and a win…… well it is opening day so unlikely. If we do bring in a couple of decent strikers bought or loaned from the likes Gyokeres at Coventry, Riis at Preston or more likely, PL loans from some of those linked like: Armstrong, Muniz or that Villa lad (forgotten his name 😬) along with someone like Choudhury, Garner, Styles etc in m/f and Jacob Greaves from Hull i can easily see us being top 2 come the end of the season £18M should cover 2/3 loans and 2/3 buys, everyones happy including Mr Wilder.

Meltdowns need to be saved until after the window shuts.
