??You didnt hear simon jordan today then ..
He was very good and unlucky not to have more England caps. But I’ve heard he was decent
I think Ugo runs him close but Southgate would get the nod in your era.I can only comment on players I have seen, and Southgate was the best - and we have had some great defenders but it's not even close.
He didn’t get any England capsHe was very good and unlucky not to have more England caps.
5 Un 23 caps and was called up to the senior team but never made an appearance. He didn’t get any England caps
Ugo wasn’t as consistent as Southgate but at his best he was better than Southgate. When he was on it and in the mood no one got past him and and no one beat him in the air.I think Ugo runs him close but Southgate would get the nod in your era.
Willie Maddren was better than them both.
His best days were at Boro. Just because he was one of Boro’s best defenders ever doesn’t mean he was as good as Ferdinand and Campbell - he wasn’t. But he was still one of the best centre halves in the country for a while.Said why were Boro the only team interested in signing him then if he was one of England's best centre halves where was the interest from the Champions League sides ..

Absolutely he wasnt the finished article at boro but was still very very good and i think he made Mowbray look far better than he was. As an out and out defender ugo at his best was my favourite just loved the way he threw everything on the line to come out on topI think we should also give an honorable shout out to Gary Pallister, he wasn't shabby
