Boro Fan - 3 Year Ban

Lad banned for shouting at opposition fans

I don't know the bloke, but surely this is way over the top from Cleveland Police? You could see the police were wanting/expecting something to happen at the Derby game, but to ban someone for 3 years for shouting is embarrassing from the police and Boro

It makes me cringe when you see groups of adults offering each other out while hiding behind the safety of a big group knowing they are safe. He admitted it and got the most lenient ban he could get, it’s harsh for a first offender and he does seem to of been an easy target for the police compared to others who do much worse but fan behaviour is worsening and there has been a need for abit of a crackdown. Hopefully it will deter other numpty’s knowing there are consequences.

A 3 year ban for shouting at opposing fans 😅
The problem from the police is inconsistency.
A few years ago a group of Sunderland fans were screaming the usually vulgar abuse at me and my two boys right in front of a couple of police outside the stadium, when I asked whats the craic with this, I was told to move on and get in the ground and they walked off laughing.

I'm pretty sure you could ban thousands every game for being 'aggressive' or 'offering out' fans (whilst usually at a distance of 50m)

It definitely seems harsh. I'm not saying these blokes are angels. Just seems harsh for a bit of shouting and gesturing.

What about all the balaclava wearing Derby fans running around pre match? Did any of them get arrested? You'd think it's odd grown men running around at dinner time with faces covered.

This just seems absurd to me. He's acted like a bit of a 7wat but a three year ban? 🤔

If this is the bench mark then hundred's, if not thousand's would be banned each week.

We have a real problem with genuine criminals receiving ridiculously lenient punishments in this country but when its football related the authorities seem to go completely over the top. Maybe they can be tough with banning orders because it doesn't cost money and investment to ban someone from a football game unlike giving a criminal a custodial sentence. 🤷

Seems harsh, but going off the article, 3 years is the minimum sentence possible and I imagine it was probably a bit worse than the sob story that the article makes it out to be.

The test to pass for one of these orders to be made is very low. Essentially the question is “would making an order help prevent violence or disorderly behaviour”? Given he’s been convicted of a public order offence at a football match then its pretty easy for the court to conclude it may “help”.

Worth him chucking an appeal in.

As previously said getting banned for mouthing is just incosistant , the verbal assault most of been bad as this goes on week in week out with no consequence ,
Wait till we play Sunderland see how many of them get ejected or even banned when screening obscenities - very few is the answer.
Unfortunately sometimes the odd person is used as deterent when hundreds get away with same thing on a weekly basis.

Derby fans were bang out of order for their behaviour on the day and for weeks leading up to the game. Treats of violence, criminal damage, attempting to recruit rival football firms, dirty protests etc etc etc

But yeah, ban one boro fan for 3 years for giving them back a bit of stick.

It's Cleveland Police, what do you expect ?

They're not known as the 'worst police force' and rated 'inadequate' by their equivalent of OFSTED for nothing , how the CPS took this forward though I really dont know.

Who arrested him in the first place - was that the courts ?

The police in this case deserve slagging off, as above they're not fit for purpose.
He was guilty of the offence. most of us have probably committed a section 5 or even section 4 Public Order Act Offence without realising it. The question is whether the prosecution was in the Public Interest.

Oh without a doubt it wasn't, and as I said in my first post how on earth did the CPS see it through.

But it's not the first time that an over zealous police force, woefully not fit for purpose, have gone for a bit of "easy nicking" which this case seems to be.
