Boro fans wanting Leeds to stay up at Everton's expense

What makes you think they'd be such a shoe-in for autos?

A lot of their fans are worried sick as they think they'll have no chance of coming back up. They're riddled with debt, plus they have a team that are currently not used to winning a lot of games and playing 50+ games a season.
They have a good core of players who have been there, done it in the Championship, and I think certain players will stay and show loyalty to Dyche.

Tarkowski, Keane, McNeil, Gray, Maupay, Simms.

They will also sell out every game. I think that will make a big difference, just as averaging big home crowds helped Newcastle to bounce back twice at the first time of asking.

I think Ashley’s millions were what helped Newcastle bounce back. Everton are in a very different place financially

Work in Leeds so surrounded by Leeds fans, everyone of them all fine with getting the pish taken. Not bothered if they stay up or not, would definitely prefer Everton to go down

Yeah, I work with loads of Leeds fans, all are pretty fair and you can have banter with. They obviously have their bellend section of support, and it's probably a bit bigger than most clubs, but plenty of decent fans too.

That said I live just outside York and one my 5 year old's mates at school almost convinced him to switch allegiance to Leeds so I might have laid it on a bit thick that they're dirty Leeds who no-one likes and always cheat. He probably hates them more than I do now 😂

Reckon that would be enough?

Obviously their fans will be overly negative about the whole situation - most fans are when it's about their team.

But I don't think they'll bounce back as convincing as some say. Certainly not like what Burnley have done.

They have a good few pro's for this league, however, they will need to have a mass overhaul with a lot of their big players/earners leaving.

Doucure, Pickford, Onana, Mina, Iwobi, Garner?...all these will be on big money and will no doubt need to be sold to help with the sizeable debt they have.

They'll keep a good few players probably, - Tarkowski, Patterson, McNeil, Gray, Godfrey, Simms...but not sure if that would be enough.

I'd love for us all to find out, but I don't think we will.

Everton going down would be interesting and funny but Leeds would be brilliant - I hope Leeds falls into the sea

Their big earners probably wouldn't be much use to them in the Championship anyway. We found that out the hard way when we brought in Braithwaite and expected him to tear up the league. You really need players who have the right attitude at this level. It's a tough tough legaue.

Everton will also have the pulling power and should be able to attract some decent players. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up bringing in one or two of our loanees. Who are Ramsey and Archer likely to sign for if they're given the choice of Boro and Everton?

I really want Everton to go down. I have family who are Everton season ticket holders. They don't want to go down because of the stick they will get from the red half of the city, and the embarrassment. Liverpool don't see them as rivals anymore, just a Derby game twice a year. Their core fans really do hate each other.

Personally, I think they have been awful for years, added nothing to the Premiership, just played every year to survive. Just like most teams I suppose. But I think its about time a big club went down. Aside from Villa, cant think of any other established team that has been relegated recently. I also remember the FA cup replays and the slashings, but our "mob" weren't exactly innocent either in that decade.

The away day at their new stadium will be excellent and they will sell out their allocation for every away game.

Nice to see Leeds go down aswell but if they survive, maybe they will give Big Sam another contract, then they will finish bottom next year. Maybe go through 3 managers again. That would be funny to watch.

Not bothered about Leicester, but if they stay up and put the other 2 down, then I will be celebrating.

I don't buy as much into the hatred of Leeds as some, but then I started following football in the 80s, rather than the 70s, which seems to be the root of much anti-Leeds sentiment.

Having lived in Leeds for 3 years, during the O'Leary heyday, I was struck by the relative indifference of the city towards its football club. You just didn't get much sense of a buzz about football that I'd expect from any other place I've lived. I do think there's a some truth in the Leeds-fans-don't-come-from-Leeds argument.

True, Everton could arguably be the biggest club ever to be relegated from the PL. However, if you're their parent club of say Archer & Ramsey, and you see the way the likes of 'Boro and Sunderland want to play and what they've done for previous young loanees, would you rather them go to Everton, or the other two clubs?

It's the parent club who will have the final say, not the player, especially for their development.

Definitely the words of a man who doesn't give a "****" about Leeds 😉

Are you sure you live in Yorkshire? Doesn't sound like you have the best grasp of where it's boundaries are.

(I agree it's not a derby, but I think it's also possible to hate teams who aren't classed as a derby).

First time on this board I’ve actually commented on Leeds . They are literally just another club to me and should be to our fans . We’ve no reason at all to hate Leeds more than any other club in the country . I really don’t get it. I mean Leeds struggle to sell their away allocation to us despite being relatively close to us (some cases don’t sell out ) and some of their lowest attendances in the championship were against us, can people not see how one sided it is ?

Boundaries of the county of teesside /Cleveland are as far up as wolviston and as south as guisborough . Sure, older folk may consider themselves Yorkshire but most people my generation (millennial ) or younger mostly consider ourselves Teessiders only . People can change these boundaries as much as they want , doesn’t change how we feel about the area. It is obvious Teesside is separate to Yorkshire .

As I said , I hope Leeds stay up and Everton go down . Purely for the entitlement from Everton fans

Yeah, that's true, although I still suspect Villa would ideally want them playing in a side they believe are most likely to be successful.

Leeds is almost a derby match. You don't want too many of those if you're trying to get promoted.
Then again, why should Everton always escape the drop?

I don’t give a **** about Leeds , that’s why . They’re a club over 60 miles away in a different county....
....The only clubs I don’t like are Newcastle and Sunderland
You do realise Newcastle and Sunderland are also in different counties to Middlesbrough?
They’re a big club in a big city and belong in the premier league . Would like to see Everton relegated
You do realise Everton are also a big club in a big city?

In a way I can understand people wanting Leeds to stay up ahead of both Everton and Leicester purely from a footballing perspective. Leeds as a club are set up far better for a promotion challenge than either Everton or Leicester would be, so that would impact on our prospects I should think.

Pretty much Leeds entire squad have relegation clauses meaning their wages reduce, some by as much as 60%, meaning they are much less pressure to sell their better players. Everton and Leicester will have a much, much higher squad turnover cos they quite simply never expected to be in this situation, especially Leicester.

Everton in particular could have a really rough time if they come down.

I lived in Leeds for a good few years in the late 80’s early 90’s, it’s a rugby league city.
