Boro likely to be Tier 3?

Was planning to come up after Christmas to see family for a few days. Apparently, it looks as though Boro will be T3 so that means no hotels!!!! Suppose I can cancel and get a refund. Gutted.

The rate has come down alot the last 2 weeks in Middlesbrough according to the latest BBC website but still quite a way to go
Would guess we will be in Tier 3 to start with

Looks like we find out where is in what Tier on Thursday. It also looks like you stay in the Tier you are allocated for some time. So no home visit if T3 🥺

john67: I hope you don’t mind me piggybacking your thread to ask this.
How is it going to work travelling to a higher tier, staying a couple of days, then returning to the lower tier region? Is the consensus view that this will be permitted over the Christmas period (as it seems crazy to me if that is the case)?
Cheers

Actually there is some advice: Avoid travel to or overnight stays in tier 3 areas other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities. You can travel through a tier 3 area as a part of a longer journey.

Cheers John.
I’m guessing that they are going to rewrite their guidance notes with regard to the 5-day Christmas free for all. Otherwise it seems pointless the government saying families can meet up when a lot of them will need to travel across tiers to do so.

It’s almost as though this is all being made up as we go along! Surely not? 🙂

This might give hope to us getting out of Tier 3.

Why would anyone buy takeaway beer from a pub in tier 3, surely they would go to the supermarket???

I can only think maybe locality or a specific draught / cask ale?

Or they just happen to meet a few acquaintances in the car park and they drink them in the beer garden together?

Should the parameters not be already available for all to see?
Or are they waiting to see where London is and finagle the figures to avoid them being in 2 or 3 ?

If it is R rate below 1 then we all know.
If it is less than 200 per 100,000 then we know.

Currently we are waiting for some anonymous no mark to come up with a complicated "once in never out" system.

I seem to recall from last time there were levels to go in but nothing to state that clearly when you would come out?

If the outcome is 75% or more areas are tier 3 then we might as well stay in lockdown or just make the whole country tier 3.

I've done this a few times. Lots of beers I like in many of my locals that you can't get in supermarket.

Also supporting the local economy who maybe need it more than the supermarkets.

We'll be in Tier 3 there is no doubt about that.

I'm hoping, but not holding my breath, that at least this time they give guidance as to how you come out of it.
For instance, infections per 100k is below a certain level for a week.

But knowing this government they'll just let it roll along and we'll be in Tier 3 until February the earliest.

P.s. The 4 week lockdown was also supposed to give breathing space so they could improve Track & Trace but that's gone quiet as well
