Boro linked to Piroe

Solid player but at his age, with the injuries he’s had, I don’t know how he will deal with so many midweek games
As we’ve learned, a capable squad is needed to go up in this league. Gives them another option I suppose.

Joel Piroe looks like he’d be a good signing on paper.

Is he a bit Boro of old as a signing tho? Does he fit the new model? I’ll be interesting to see which way we end up going.

I think we’ll continue going for young players with a high ceiling.. then if we miss out we can sell and go again.

Much better than being lumped with duffers we can’t shift and having to tread water for 3 or 4 years.

Think this would be a good signing for us, if <£9m, a better signing than Armstrong would have been I think, albeit Armstrong would have been good timing for us in Jan.

He's still only 26 too, so probably no matter what we buy for, we could still get most of that back I think.

He's also used to pressing/ working hard, having been at Leeds, think he would also suit us more than Leeds TBH.

Could see someone like Ipswich being interested in him too mind, Cov don't really need him and Hull won't be playing football. He's probably not good enough to be a regular starter for any of the rest in the prem.

He's probably due a step down, Prem is too much for him, but doesn't need to go as low as SPL. Only played 240 mins in the prem last year and contract up in a year, now is the time to strike.

I guess we will do what we seem to have done before with scott rolling the dice on a few players hoping 1 comes good while making some astute signings of undervalued players with proven pedigree at this level.

He’s not apparently on our list so its going to be interesting to see who is and what our budget it’s , surely wel be after more than ine goal scorers plus a Whitticker replacement if he goes .

Not sure about Piroe tbh. Not sure the hunger is there considering he had opportunities to leave last year and didn't fancy it. For the money Leeds will be wanting I think there's better out there, for the way we play I'm hoping for someone who has blistering pace off the mark.

He's not doing it in the Premier League, so he is just an expense for Leeds. He may not even get a EPL squad place next season.

He's the sort of player we should be looking at i.e. can do it in the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League.

He's got one year left on his Leeds contract and wants to play International football for Suriname, so needs to be playing games somewhere.

Crazy for a 26/27 year old to not want to play regularly. He could be cult hero at the Boro.

Yeah, its like we never signed Sene, or Hamilton, or Sarmiento, or Hansen, or Burgzorg, or Engel, or Barlaser, or Hoppe, or....
Strelec

You could frame that as he had hunger to fight for his place at a higher level though, without knowing his thoughts and circumstances it's difficult to say.

I can't see many proven champo goal scorers/ finishers available for ~£8-10m, and even less who are willing to put a decent shift in to press and can play football. Then even less again who are at a good age, like 26 is. That's four attributes which we crucially need/ target, and he has proven he can do them all. We would probably want more money than that for Whittaker and Conway, and they're also fair value at that, so this guy has to be value surely, and especially value for us, with the style we play.

We're not going to be playing target man football, or counter attack, it would go against the rest of our squad makeup.
