Boro's superstar centre forwards

I would say Boksic edges Viduka purely in terms of ability. I’m convinced Croatia would have won the 1998 World Cup if he was fit.

Would be interesting to know how many points different strikers’ contributions have won us per season.

Ravanelli in 96/97: 16 league goals which only won us eight points.

21 points from the games Rav scored in?

15 cup goals mainly against lower league opposition, but was 3 minutes away from being the player that scored to win us our first trophy.... big contrast to Negrado who scored a lot less (albeit in a very conservative style of play that season)

Rav was an absolute super star when he joined and to score that many goals in a struggling team was quite special.

Viduka was outrageously good on his day, but needed 5 games to get back up to speed after frequent spells out injured.

Boksic was past his best and lazy, but pulled off some outrageous moments

I think its fair to say we've had 5-6 of these, most in the Robson/McClaren era. Yakubu was perhaps not as globally renowned, but a big name in the PL. There may be a small argument for Alves or even Maccarone, but I've dismissed them.
  • Ravanelli
  • Boksic
  • Hasselbaink
  • Yakubu
  • Viduka
  • Negredo
Am I right in thinking that JFH is remembered by far the most fondly? If so, its odd because I remember he got tons of stick for being lazy back in 2004-2006. Has history been the kindest to him?

In my view Viduka was easily the best of the bunch, but I don't remember him too warmly for the way he left (and where he went, he could have gone anywhere else).
You've offended the top 5 on this list by placing Negredo in the conversation.

Not points in games he scored in, but points we won owing to the goals he scored.

It’s not about how good they were though Marv. Negredo came with a big profile, that’s all there is to his inclusion in the list.
Yes I'd agree with you, he did come with a decent size reputation, especially with only playing for City 1 or 2 years before hand.

But as that list goes, he was the worst of the bunch, by a clear distance IMO.

I expected a lot more from him.

The other 5 have given us some fantastic memories/moments, whereas Negredo is probably best known for a 2-2 draw away to Leicester City.

Yes I seem to remember Boksic being a bit turd at both Lazio and Juve?
Boksic scored 3 goals for Juve in 22 league appearances before they bundled him off back to Lazio.

He played 7 seasons in Serie A in total, a mighty 137 league appearances and scored 34 league goals, making double figures once.
He certainly had skill, but his best was definitely at Marseilles, where he won the French league, top scored in the league and then won the Champions League.

Alen Boksic was a prolific centre forward (the thread subject) at Marseilles and nowhere else. He simply didn't play often enough and when he did he didn't score many.
He should be remembered for his technique and the occasional sublime goals he scored.

That is only true of his first season. The last 2 seasons he played 80 times for us.
He was as instrumental as anyone in us reaching the Euro final then was utterly magical in Southgate's first season.
