Just booked flights to Rio for 3 weeks this summer and am now planning the itinerary. We have a route planned but need ideas/recommendations etc from people who have been to:

Rio (and the surrounding area......looking at a day trip to Paraty for example)
Iguazu Falls
Bonito and Panatanal regions
Manaus and the Amazon

Any Brazil experts out there?

i hope all this covid shyite is over by then. We're off to NYC tomorrow and the sheer stress of getting online video covid tests completed, trying to work out what the country wants to let you in, and what the airline want also has been a minefield. Ive been stressing for 3 weeks trying to keep us all safe and then a close family member goes and tests positive yeaterday and my daughter has been with them all last week. Luckily weve passed the covid test today and now i just need to worry about getting through MAN airport, seeing it in chaos on the news. Added to that the drive over tomorrow morning. Im so stressed about everything.
Im sure your trip will be amazing and i wish you all the best for your travels.

@Sammysmiths thank you, and safe travels to you too!

As someone who lives in Chicago but who has 2 kids at uni in England, we are pretty used to Covid-era travelling now and eventually it becomes routine and not as stressy. I hope your actual trip will be far less aggro than the anticipation and I am sure NYC will be worth it. If it's like Chicago you'll find it pretty much "business as usual" but with a healthy respect for Covid too. Enjoy!!

Far from a Brazil expert, but Iguazu Falls is the most jaw dropping place I've ever been.
We stayed at Das Cataratas Hotel inside the National Park on the Brazilian side of the Falls and it was magical. Pricey but well worth it. You can do the Falls when all the tourists haver gone or before they arrive.
Also take time to go into Argentina to see the Falls from the other side, it really is worth the effort. Take the time to do the Falls justice.

Rio is unique and the sights are well worth seeing, but having been I won't go back. Hope you have a clear day at Christ the Redeemer.

Have a wonderful time

We went to the pantanall for a few days - I can dig out the name of the place we stayed.

One day is good for igazu.

Get the team up to Christ the redeemer - go nice and early- it gets busy later in the day.

I’ll see if I’ve still got my itinerary and send it to you.

We wished we had stayed longer than three nights at Das Cataratas in Iguazu.
Magical place.

PM me. Pre covid I was spending 4 to 5 months a year in Brasil. I speak portugués and, I am odd, prefer São Paulo to Rio. Just back from one month there.
