Easy to forget Jones hasn't been through an academy like most players, he's not had the same footballing education.
This.. I've mentioned previously that you can sometimes see the rough edges in Jones' game which for me is as a result of a non league upbringing rather than an academy one.

I think a lot of the silly petulant bookings he gets are as a direct result of this also.

Hopefully as he develops in the professional game these things will dissapear from his game.

Jury's still out for me - not that I think he's a bad player, just need to see more of him to form an opinion I think.

Little disappointed he played out wide yesterday. I'd have stuck him on Baath and asked him to run through.

It depends on your strengths as a player to be fair. Giles / Downing had quality in their delivery but not necessarily rapid top end pace. Beckham was another player like that, much higher standard, that goes without saying.

Jones would be more similar to a player like Sterling (again not saying as good as) where his strength is speed and ability to go past a man rather than the quality of delivery

Jones like Sterling is better suited to try and get to the by line and pull back
I agree entirely but I was just trying to debate wether Carrick wants Jones to change a bit and start delivering earlier into the box. As a result he takes him out of the firing line while he tries to adapty to the change, rather than keep knocking his confidence.

I always remember the debate on why Downing no longer took people on before crossing as he certainly wasnt slow (in his peak years anyway eg European runs)
