Car insurance

If you don't mind my asking, how much does your *household* pay for car insurance in total (for all cars in total)? Feel free to round to the nearest £50.

One car, me and the wife insured - £950
Ok that makes me feel better instantly, so thanks. I think you're the first person I've ever had dialogue with whose car insurance is in the same sort of ballpark as ours (not a flash car either).

Is it because we only have 1 car? Everyone else I speak to seems to spend about £300 a year.

Mine is £600 a year for a Mercedes A class 180 if that helps, but I do have business use on there as it’s a requirement for work. I’ve tried all the comparison sites and I could get it down by about £30 but I e been with One Call for nearly 10 years and they’ve always been ok. They let me pay monthly interest free and I can give them a months notice if I find a cheaper deal. I also have breakdown and courtesy car cover thrown in.

I was paying about £38 a month for my Suzuki SX5 so I assume A classes are considered a bit more of a hot hatch than a Suzuki😁

My car cost £74k so that's why it is so expensive, if yours isn't the same value then the insurance shouldn't be so high unless you have claims or convictions.

Our insurance is less than yours but higher than the other responses. I think brand new it is worth about £36k, so half the value of yours.

Sort your renewal quotes four weeks before the start date. It will save you a fair chunk. Also see if there’s a different profession that would still apply to you and try that. For example, someone selecting call centre worker might be charged more than someone selecting office worker.

Whenever your renewal comes up always ring up and say it too expensive.
Works a treat.
We do, but it still doesn't get it down to anywhere the levels on this thread. All the comparison sites suggest we are NOT getting ripped off. But I just don't get it.

We do have business use on there but even if if I take it off purely to see the difference, it makes none! I dunno if we live in some kind of high car theft area but I really didn't think we did. Its quite a nice area!

Thanks but done all this, we'd be paying even more still if we didn't.

Do you put your driving licence number in when asked as this sometimes brings the cost down?

The wife needs business use on our car and we also have European cover. The car is not worth as much as yours.

Edit: Also 17 years no claims.

Also how old are you, don’t forget a lot on this board are silver surfers (really trying to be polite) so their premiums will be lower, us young uns (tongue very firmly in cheek) have tolerate high car insurance costs 🤭
