Cardiff after Uche

Uche has always been a limited footballer - especially when it comes to scoring goals. Yes he can bully, harass and offer 100% commitment. But is this enough for a promotion chasing club? I don’t think so. A buy made by a manager with a totally different philosophy on how to play the game.

We’ve changed - as such it is kinder to sell him

I like Uche a lot. Bit unsure about having a load of similar forwards. Coburn is a bit different to the rest but he's obviously well down the pecking order. I just like the idea of being able to throw on the big guy to mess with defenders if things aren't going our way. Wilder has made it clear that he's not in his plans though and wherever he ends up I wish him all the best.

A permanent deal would be better for us, as you'd hope we would at least be getting back what we paid for him. In fact I'd expect to make a small profit, as his stock has clearly risen.

They’re not after him they are interested this has all been generated by his agent his agent is begging them to take him but the sticking point is his agent wants a permanent deal but Cardiff are only interested in a loan deal & they aren’t going to budge on it.

west brom showing interest to take the slack while Dike is injured......I definitely would not loan him to them. They don't want to be lumbered with him long term, we currently are stuck with him. I'd only allow them to buy him, but loan with an auto purchase to other champ clubs should they avoid relegation.

Never liked big lump centre forewards but I began to warm to this bloke. He seemed to develop more skill on the ball and certainly had a big heart. Hope he does well wherever he goes.

I like Uche but it's fairly obvious his future at the Boro is limited now. He certainly could've done a better job of holding up the ball than Sporar or Connolly managed on Monday.

If he goes to Cardiff and scores a few goals to keep them safely above you-know-who, then fine.

I think the thing is Wilder doesn't want us to just bang the ball aimlessly at a forward and therefore doesn't want to need a big lump up top to hold it up. There are lots of ways to solve a problem on the pitch, banging long is just one.

Our whole team didn't play with any intelligence, we needed to stretch the pitch, long and wide. Draw their press, work through it, and into midfield beyond their press. Tav and Crooks didn't show at all first half between the lines. Howson did a couple of times but got caught. When we did hit it longer, in the second half, we did it intelligently, we did it out wide right to Crooks who had a height and strength advantage. Uche might have won a few balls, but unless he has people near him to pass with it would be lost again.

Good summary BoroMart

Cardiff is fine, but we should under no circumstances be selling him to West Brom.

No chance of Cardiff disrupting our season, but we could inadvertently strengthen West Brom if he hits a vein of form.

I dislike the assumption that that's how you have to play if you have a big centre forward, and I don't think it's what Uche wants either. I love classic centre forward play of the Paul Wilkinson variety, and no one though he wanted long balls because he was over 6'. Balls to feet and, better still, crosses are equally effective.

Uche's never going to run in behind, but he's got a decent touch and link up play. He just needs movement around him. I don't think he has PL potential, but he's a decent football centre forward at this level.

I do share the concern that our strikers are too similar. Without a physical presence, it allows the other team to sit deep and deny them space in behind, as Blackburn did on Monday. A more physical threat means they can't sit as close to their own penalty area.

Yep - I don't disagree with any of that, and don't want to see us banging it long either. I was frustrated that Sporar and Connolly couldn't hang onto the ball for any length of time and it just kept coming back, but would love to see our midfield playing them in behind the defence, as we've seen a few times recently. Fingers crossed for some more intelligent play in the coming weeks.
