Carrick - Big Game Bottler

Brilliant first season to turn us round from relegation zone to playoffs but has Carrick got what it takes for us to take the next step.

As he said himself, you learn more from the setbacks than your successes so:
Championship
29-Oct-22
Preston2 - 1MiddlesbroughLFirst game in charge, chance to start with a bang & ends up with a damp squib.
Championship
17-Dec-22
Burnley3 - 1MiddlesbroughLChance to show Boro's revival had real substance against the top team in the Div. Took lead & lost.
FA Cup
07-Jan-23
Middlesbrough1 - 5BrightonLFree hit against a Prem team which was closer to bottom (gap 15pts) than top (17pts), didn't turn up.
Championship
22-Jan-23
Sunderland2 - 0MiddlesbroughLLocal derby with more than pride resting on it. Out performed by opponent.
Championship
25-Feb-23
West Brom2 - 0MiddlesbroughLChance to turn the screw on Sheff Utd, 2 down in 10 minutes and never looked like getting back into it.
Championship
01-Apr-23
Huddersfield4 - 2MiddlesbroughLLeading 1-0 at halftime potentially closing the gap to 1 pt but massive bottle job & end up losing 4-2, gap to 2nd now 6 pts.
Championship
07-Apr-23
Middlesbrough1 - 2BurnleyLDidn't expect much to be honest & didn't get it.
Championship
24-Apr-23
Luton2 - 1MiddlesbroughLRace for 3rd, capitulated.
Championship
01-May-23
Rotherham1 - 0MiddlesbroughLRace for 3rd, capitulated against a team trying to avoid relegation.
Championship Play-Off
14-May-23
Coventry0 - 0MiddlesbroughDContent with a clean sheet rather than trying to win the game.
Championship Play-Off
17-May-23
Middlesbrough0 - 1CoventryLHome game, just needed to win. Controlled possession but players seemed scared to play through balls or make runs behind. Could still be playing now & don't think we'd score.

Notable exception was Sheffield United away, big must win game & we won. So 12 tests, came up short 11 times.

The rotation policy didn't work either I don't think any of the rested players came back in firing on all cylinders.
A case in point being Chuba Akpom 12 goals in 12 games, rested, 0 goals in 4 games.

So he's got some improving to do or we'll end up frustrated again.

In all honesty I think your table just typifies the Championship in a nutshell.

Look at everyone else's results over the season (bar Burnley) and everyone has had a series of banana skins.

Nothing to do with MC necessarily .

By any chance were you the moron in the NW corner, row 26, who called the player of the year *****, Forrs ***** - demanded Jones replace him, then called Jones ***** and then said all of them are ***** before then leaving on 80 minutes?

Don't come back.

The whole bottler thing as a concept is mostly a myth anyway. Players and teams lose games because the opposition play better than them. It's nothing to do with a lack of courage, determination or character. A team of cloggers with the greatest heart, determination and desperate will to win would get battered 8-0 by Man City no matter how hard they tried.

The whole idea of Carrick as a bottler is just a pathetic. 🤡
