Celtic fans very bitter about Riley

I really struggle with this idea about how well they would do in our league over time. I mean they would have a completely different history, if dominated by other teams like Man Utd, they may never have built up any significant fanbase. These 45-55K crowds are a relatively new thing. It's only the last 30 years that they either club have had crowds comparable to the biggest clubs in England, and to be honest if they were watching prem football their myopic world of rangers vs celtic would disappear and the city would have loads of Utd, Liverpool and City fans. Like every other prem city. I would doubt 50k people would turn up every week to see them beaten and battered regularly. The crowds are there because they win every week

Anyway I've had a browse at the relative historical attendances to put them into perspective (feel free to check yourself if you like, sources below), here is a mixed scottish-english all time attendance table:

1 - Manchester United – 40,360
2 - Liverpool – 34,763
3 - Arsenal – 34,701
4 - Tottenham – 34,101
5 - Newcastle – 32,757
6 - Chelsea – 32,473
7 - Everton – 31,738
8 - Man City – 30,394
9 - Aston Villa – 28,594
10 - RANGERS - 26,978
11 - Sunderland – 25,811
12 - West Ham – 25,786
13 - Leeds – 25,768
14 - CELTIC - 24,574
15 - Sheffield Wednesday – 21,402
16 - Wolves – 20,731
17 - Birmingham – 20,094
18 - Middlesbrough – 19,780
19 - Leicester – 19,486
20 - West Brom – 19,430

So there you go Rangers similar to Villa or Sunderland. Celtic similar to Leeds or Sheff Wed. They are as likely to find themselves in the third division as mid table in the prem on current evidence.

Is this the same Celtic who's best striker chose to came to boro when we were in the Championship the first time we failed to smash the league?

We've offered a bit more dosh and an opportunity to get into the prem. Hopefully he's a hit. He's a player Wilder wants because of specific qualities he has, fine by me.

Kinda hope it doesn't limit an opportunity for Payero to get some game time though.

I see a week later, the sweaties still can't get over it, still bu** hurt about not being a draw for talented young players.

Charlie 'champagne' Nicholas this time complaining about Riley following the money....er Charlie, you didn't buy the champagne lifestyle on your Celtic wages did you, no, it was when you went south of the border to try and get some credibility and money. But then you couldn't really hack it with the big boys and scuttled of back to the safety of Scottish football but at least your wallet was bulging with English £10 notes.

Charlie left his beloved Celtic at the start of the height of his career - he knew he could earn a lot more in England even in 1983.

Charlie needs to talk about how Scottish Premiership clubs can't compete with Salford in the wages league.

If Boro were in Scotland they would be the third largest club in the country.

possibly larger, historically up until the last 30 years our crowds are maybe slightly larger than theirs
