Celtic pre-season friendly

Not a big fan of either club. I was disgusted by the group of Celtic fans who sang songs about Lee Rigby. Then Celtic paid tribute to one of the murderers to the two corporals and displayed a happy birthday message to him on the big screen, although it could have been a genuine oversight and they might not have realised who he was.

I know Rangers fans still sing the Billy Boys song, so in fairness, as you said, there's good and bad in all support.
 
The Tony Mowbray testimonial, where he played for Celtic one half and Boro the other half was mad. Just remember wall to wall coaches parked around the “Yellow Rose” and Roman Road!
 
I remember last time we played Celtic at Boro

Still to this day never seen so many away fans in Boro

Was mayhem

I’m sure I remember there fans on pitch with flag and lads from south stand I think it was flew down and started scrapping
 
Would be up for that, missed Rangers last season.

Worked in Newcastle city centre years when Celtic played them, think they brought about 15,000 - quite a sight watching them walk through town to the ground, took about an hour to pass.

You are right regarding all support.

However, i would say more English club supporters align themselves with Rangers over Celtic in the same way i dont believe Celtic hold too many links to English clubs, unlike Rangers. You see lots of Club flags with reference to Rangers - personally i dont get it at all but its there.

I guess there would be less chance of trouble us playing there than them playing here. It was chaos at Sunderland a few years ago. Would Celtic even be fussed on a Boro game?
 
I always (maybe wrongly) assumed that historically we were quite a pro Celtic club given the high proportion of Irish immigrants on Teesside and relatively high Catholic population. But you're getting to 4th and 5th generation Irish now (I'm 3rd and other than a soft spot for the place, I don't feel Irish) and people are of course no longer that religious.

Definitely far more links to Celtic on the football side than Rangers.

Not a fan of either club in reality. But like most clubs the majority of fans will be sound. They just both have a loud minority of absolute d***heads.

My great grandfather came over to Teesside from Ireland in the late 19th century, but I'm not aware of Irish traditions etc being passed down through my mother's side of the family.
No Celtic supporters in the family. All Boro.
 
They was a big Irish community in Middlesbrough, many coming over in the 20s and 30s. As above its 2nd and 3rd generation these days.
I remember going to the irish club over the border where they played the irish national anthem at the end of the night.
There's a Teesside irish society still on the go

Yeah same other than the Catholic stuff. Although I decided long ago, much to my parent's disappointment, that it wasn't for me.

I was living I redcar at the time ...they totally took over redcar for the weekend 🍺

But we talking just football fans here.

You don't see any pro Celtic flags etc in English games but you do see pro Rangers stuff - Lots of English clubs have Rangers supporters groups. You saw the love in when we played them last year.

Celtic show a lot of Anti English stuff, sang Lizzie's in a box etc. It will attract the Ranger's loving Boro fans and could lead to trouble in my opinion.

Another example, how many English football fans have been pro Israel and Celtic regularly displaying Pro Palestinian. I know this should have no factor to a football game but the sad reality is that those people on either side are football fans.

As i say, i would expect less trouble up there than down here for example as i'm not sure we would be a big draw for their fans in the first place.
 
I’ve got an Irish surname but my lot came over to the Boro early doors 1870’s. They had it bloody hard apparently because people didn’t want the Irish immigrants and wouldn’t hire them, only the really low jobs that other didn’t want to do, but thankfully it was a growing town and all hands needed.

English fans in general will lean towards Rangers obviously, not disputing that at all.

Majority of Boro fans these days too no doubt.

But we're probably more of a pro-celtic fanbase than average because of our history.
