central heating up-date

On the subject of condensation / mould. I'd noticed a bit of condensation gathering on the bottom inside face of our windows the last week or so. Had a bit of an investigation and it turns out that one of us had closed all of the trickle vents on the windows at some point.
Opened them all up and its no longer there (y)
If it comes back look into a PIV system

I only got one so I dont need to crawl under the stairs to see the electric and risk the spiders in the gas meter which is outside.
Ah, the scary bit is all part of the deal. Character building. I put my new head torch on, take my phone to make pics of both meters (as I can't remember both at same time ) and I tell the cats, hey gang I'm going in (under the stairs ) the cupboard, you know the one that even you don't like to sniff around in for too long, yeah that one, I'm going in for the monthly read. If I don't make it back you've got enough dry biscuits to make it 2 days. After that you'll have to do sos paw signs like I taught you, through the front window at passers by and hope for the best.

Whats that?
It's a unit that sits in your loft and pulls air from the loft (I.e air from outside), filters it and then pumps it into the house, you usually fit them into an upstairs landing so that all rooms benefit. Basically keeps air circulating in the house.

You might lose a little warmth but make up for it in fresh air esp in summer. You can get ones that heat the air but cheaper to just central heating

Are you a plumber mate or just someone who is REALLY into this stuff? 😁

Double curtains floor-to-ceiling in all rooms an a curtain at front door appear to be working.(y)
An observation: the lounge temperature can be effected by the furnishings and content. My lounge has 7 book-cases - with over 500 books. Paper can absorb moisture, but it also absorb heat and acts as an insulator. I keep the trickle feed open.

Hi all. First reply on a heating post! Typical

Need to clarify my thinking so wonder if any experts can assist

Boiler set to around 63 degrees for radiators. So flow turned down from max to save £s and make boiler more efficient.

Have one digital thermostat where we can set heating times and temp. Currently using manual at 20 degrees for short time in morning and to warm from kids home from school. When temp in room is 20 degrees the thermostat will shut off the boiler. (right?) Will then fire up when needed to return room to set temperature.

Then there are TR valves on the radiators. Off in rooms not in use.
In the room where the thermostat is that's set to 20 degrees should it be set to 5,4 or 3? Any saving in not having it at 5? This may be an area to drive more savings but don't fully understand it.

Curtains, blinds, shutters.. secondary glazing.

are we being forced to be more energy efficient? we were supposed to be getting new power stations.. no sign of the, in the horizon!!
