Championship: Boro Average Home[4th] - Away[8th] - Overall[4th] - Attendances 22/23

The Boro away following figure will be boosted by Yorkshire club trips to Sheffield United, Rotherham and Huddersfield.

At home we should get 30k against Norwich and Burnley

I think 25k will be our base now if we stay top 6.

The stats speak for themselves ... great numbers currently given the current price of football we're nearly on a par with the average crowd the season after we last dropped out the Premier League

Some strange stats in amongst this lot ... we were better supported Colin Todd's soul season in charge than we were for Lennie's promotion season

There's a repeating pattern with top flight attendances after the boom of the 74/75 season you can see attendances dropping off season by season until our massive decline in the early to mid 80s

After 2004/05 full houses at the Riverside are few and far between, surprisingly filling the corner in only actually benefited us for the 1st two seasons with regards to regular attendances of 33k+ (I'm assuming we were still at season card sell out status at this point)

Quite a few of our highest gates were reduced ticket price games Coventry at the end of the 2009/10 certainly was I'm pretty sure season card holders could bring someone for a fiver if they filled a form out with the person's details they were buying the extra ticket for

West Ham 89/90 was the game you had to attend to be 'guaranteed' a ZDS Cup Final Ticket
What happened in 2006/07 for Charlton to be the biggest home gate of the season? I think this game may have been kids for a quid?

Sheff Wed was a ticket deal in 2012/13 as was Bolton the following season for Karanka's first game in charge

for the record them up the A19 win the trophy for best supported club between the 2 of us (but I think we secretly already knew that ... just as well big crowds don't win you promotion

Right ... what can I study next haha

I'm surprised we are averaging more this season than in Karanka's promotion season.
Also the Play-Off Final season is surprisingly low. I guess it started low and built as the season progressed?

The away figures are nothing to do with how many we take really. It is the total attendances of our away games, including home fans.
So if anything, the Rotherham game will bring the average down.

I actually think norwich will keep attendance higher than ours as they’ll go on a decent run.
I think we may get the opportunity to get our own back over them in may
Norwich are at pretty much full houses - small stadium.
We would need 29377 average in remaining 9 home matches to equal their current average over the full season.
Unlikely.

I am stunned Burnley are averaging more away so far this season.
Given we have trips to Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea to come and only 9 left away in total, I can't see us passing them, especially as they still have Blackburn away.

Burnley have a strong hardcore of fans. They have never been out of the top 6. A lot of clubs for them within 2 hours drive.

The bottom 8 teams for away crowds are the teams who haven’t played away at Sunderland yet.
The 9th team who haven’t played there are Birmingham , so they will probably move right up the away chart as that game adds 1k to every teams average

This is true.
(You weren't very good Joe, sorry to say).

I'm struggling to see the point in looking at the away attendances like that?

What has the crown of the team playing at home got to do with an average ranking of away followings?

Surely you just look at the amount of away fans at the game? How many travel? That gives the clearest indication of how good an away following a club has?

I'm guessing it's just laziness on their parts.

Can take a bit of delving to find away attendances, whilst home clubs regularly announce total attendances.

The abysmal start is history, but the amazing transformation sees us in 4th spot at home and looking likely to surpass Norwich anytime soon.

No chance of passing Norwich, even with 30k at the next 5 games we'd still be lower

It's a load of tosh really isn't it.

A theoretical example... Boro and West Brom both take exactly 2,000 to Swansea for an away game.

The Boro game is a Tuesday night and the home crowd is 15,000.

The West Brom game is a Saturday and the crowd is 20,000.

West Brom get a higher rating/ranking of away following.

Nonsense.

You are right , there isn’t on the away chart. In the old days Wimbledon in the top flight would end up with similar away attendance to say Villa.
A better indication would be awarding ranking to the visitors for highest home crowd
So for example Middlesbrough would have
Wigan 3
Sunderland 2
WBA. 1

Boxing Day in our division makes a bigger difference than the Premier .

All posters - When I write about Boro away I am only writing about the actual away fans, not the total attendance.

From memory - maybe others can name anything if I have got it wrong as I have not been to many away games this season.

Away - We have sold out

Sunderland
Hull?
Burnley
Norwich
Millwall?
Watford?
Birmingham
Blackpool?

Nearly sold out

QPR (lower and upper)

Games with quite a few tickets left

Reading
Stoke
Wigan
Coventry
Preston
Blackburn (were given 5.5k? sold 4.5k)
