Chuba Akpom…

Think he's one of those players who needs a cuddle and for the manager to tell him how good he is, and he's the best.

Sadly at Boro (don't know about Greece) he's had two managers who will tear a strip of you if you don't do EXACTLY what they tell you. This didn't suit him and drained all his confidence.

Carrick is completely different, seen his best role, and filled him to the brim with confidence.

Skill and ability has always been there it's just taken a rookie manager to fully understand how he ticks and how to get the best out of him.

Lazarus didn't even turn things around like Akpom has.......😍
When Lazarus feels his stern resolve draining away and his chance slipping through his hands he says aloud to himself "What would Chuba Akpom do?"

You can't really say that about Wilder he was away on loan when he arrived, then did well at the start of this season. Warnock certainly didn't get anything out of him

It's genuinely one of the most amazing footballer transformations I've ever known. He continues to amaze me game after game. Brilliant footballer.

Why has it taken him this long to show his true ability?
Some people take longer to mature, I think he tried to mix it up physically too much, that probably worked at youth level, but in the man’s game he hadn’t physically developed to compete. Now he’s trying to use his technical ability and on top of that he’s gotten stronger to take the pushes and bumps

It's down to the man himself and the coaching team.

1) chuba's attitude is immense, he's studying opposition. He's studying team mates, he's got a personal fitness coach. He said it himself he's now obsessed with Football. You can't half tell.

2) Carrick and the coaches. They seen he had love dribbling and passing ability straight away and converted him. Carrick's man management is superb. Chuba is clearly a player that needed a cuddle, he's got that. He's happy now and we're reaping the benefit

I also think the fact the fans now absolutely love him is helping, he's never had a 'home' and to hear his name chanted home and away is clearly pumping that adrenaline right through his veins.

4 more til he officially becomes the first striker to score 20 since Slaven. I hope he gets it out the way quickly and absolutely obliterates our records

Do you remember when Ravanelli scored 16 goals in a season?
Just watching efl highlights and chuba interview where it was mentioned the last boro player to score 20 league goals was probably Ravenelli. It was almost as they they'd done no research at all and were just guessing lol. Tbf to Chuba he did sort of correct him and mention Bernie.

Think they said 20 goals in a season. Didn’t mention league.

Ahh, fair enough, I'm too tired to go back and check, I'll take your word for it.

Incidentally, mentioning Rav I was watching his goals.on youtube earlier and had a proper lol moment when I seen him fall flat on his face after scoring pen v sheff wed. Did not remember that at all, haha.

Last player to score 20 goals in a season for Boro is ?
No google Newy .
Bamford beat Ravanelli.. Hamilton Ricard had a surprising goal stat.. was he our top prem goal scorer? It’s gonna be old school innit

Pretty sure Slaven bigged himself up when Bamford scored a hat full.. 86, 87, 88’ era Slaven must have come up with the goods?

I was struggling with square pegs in round holes!

‘Bernie Beaten’ - a new book for Xmas perhaps.. how Bernie’s goals stack up against Chuba’s.. plus some Bernie’s Bake Off Recipes to finish off?
