Chuba Akpom

We’re on an all time high with Chuba. I know the last time we had a decent striker was way back when, but Chuba is so different.

Many have lived through the white feather, Bernie, Hendrie and Hickey but honestly the fella (not to disrespect the others) is way above them. One of the posts today hit the nail on the head— the finish for the offside goal was way up there amongst the elite strikers. I’d even go as far as to say he’s in a different class to anything in the championship or perhaps in other leagues.

Ok he’s having a purple patch maybe but even when he was out in Greece some of the goals he scored there should have been ample warning of what was to come from him— and now we’re seeing it for real.
Bamford was the last one that came close, he got 17 in the league and we were a less attacking team under Karanka than we are under Carrick. The championship is very different to the PL as well. Players like Rav, Yakubu, Viduka, Jimmy, Ricard and Boksic were a different level.

I was one of the majority expecting Akpom's career to continue as it was so hopefully this is just me understanding him again but I don't think he'd be capable of replicating this form at the highest level.

Need to get that contract extension sorted.

He’s had the extra year activated, I suspect both parties have agreed to look at a longer contract in the summer when we know what division we’ll be in.

What I think most will accept is that this may well be the best season he will have in his career and I’m glad to see he’s soaking it all in and thankful for every last minute.

Chuba is doing amazingly well this season but it’s the Championship. Way too early to be saying he is ‘way above’ players like Rav, Viduka, Jimmy etc.

He has already scored against a prem team this season.

Playing as he is he can do it in the prem. Obviously probably not as prolifically, but his all round game is premier League level.

As a youngster with Arsenal he was heavily tipped to go on and play for England, he was very highly rated. So he's always had the ability. Turning that into consistent, effective performances was always the catch. Until now it seems.

Chuba was having a war of attrition with their keeper Dieng. Saved the penalty, but Chuba got the rebound. Pulled off a magnificent save to stop Chuba getting his hat trick in the second half, which incidentally, would have been one of the goals of season had it gone in. Keep it going Chuuubbbaaaa!

I'd include Bernie in that list too, 32 goals in all competitions in his best season, in a team which was struggling badly too. Scored 17 in his only full season in the top division.
That being said I've never watched a player who looked as good as Chuba does at the moment since this little Brazilian fella who played for us, what was his name again?

Also like to add to this thread that Chuba seems like a thoroughly decent human being. Both myself and Little Legs got a photo with him before the game. He was kind, engaging, extremely 'smiley', and gave a lot of time to the waiting fans.
Poor bloke was getting tortured by some for autographs but he made his way along calmly greeting everyone.
Seems like a very humble gent.

My love in with him increased 10 fold and I've now told the wife we're getting a poster of him for our bedroom wall.
