Clarkson sacked by Amazon

The number of complaints show an apology was needed yet some of the public comments are as much over the top as his original comments.
I do kind of agree with this. The guy isn't my type of person at all, the hyperbolic 'humour' he used in this article towards someone whose been abused more than enough really wasn't my sort of joke, but people spending hours of their time on twitter trying to 'right' this 'wrong' by abusing him endlessly to prove they are 'good' just shows what an unhealthy place social media can be. The guy is pretty bullet proof when it comes to criticism anyway.

Clearly not bullet proof when he lost Top Gear due to his behaviour and now this Amazon decision 🤷‍♂️

Because he never suffers any consequences as a result of his words
Well he does, he's lost jobs etc, but he is one of those people who is very famous and will always find work. Its unlikely that will ever change, so people really shouldn't waste their time trying to 'cancel' him is all I'm saying. Its not healthy.

As someone above said, your confusing 'cancel' with consequences

Yeah, I thought we had grown up from all that rubbish. Norm wanted to bring it back though. Sad
No he didn't. If you read back he made a generalisation that some people had a certain view and you went off on one. Your initial reply was so littered with typos that it looked like you were typing it by banging your head on the keyboard. You are the one making it about you, you are the one being personal.

Just take a moment and chill the fukk out.

I don't think there is much difference nowadays. Very few people actually GET cancelled. Its just a social reaction that emerges when someone does something wrong, the Twittersphere puts a load of pressure on their employers until they lose all their contracts. But it only lasts until someone decides they could still make money from them. Otherwise, as Muttley said above, they just run out of road but that's always been a natural consequence in showbiz.

Clarkson has faced consequences, but like everyone else (including Michael Jackson) he hasn't and never will be completely cancelled. But if you mean beyond losing contracts, like prosecution, then as awful as his 'joke' about Meghan Markle was, I don't think he's actually broken the law.

I jumped to the end of the thread when I first opened it then had to go back and read everything when I saw the claims of bullying. I fail to see what Norman did wrong.

Mad how you can read it that way! I guess that's the joy of social media. Once you have a bad guy, you can just say what he does is wrong. It's a dangerous place sometime

I think perhaps you are reading a little too much into things.
Yeah, however when people say things like this
He has lain dormant for centuries, only to be awoken by the vibrations of dissent against Clarkson. He's unleashing his wrath against this message board.

God help us all. Godspeed, brother. Amen.
It's hard not be sensitive. I know Norman stirred the pot but I'm still surprised people wanted to pile on. I thought we had grown up

Go back to page 3 and look at the timing of the post that you think is a "personal" attack on you. Norman posted it two minutes after you posted. He was probably typing it at the same time as you were posting considering that it was several lines long. It referred to no one in particular (though one poster, not you, had made the "thanks Meg" remark)

Perhaps you just need to step away from this thread for a few minutes, have a cup of tea and as I said before, just chill.

It's not about you. I have in the past stuck up for you when people posted about your voting record, I am not your enemy, this is not a pile on ST thing. This is trying to be helpful advice. Let it go.

I've been following Clarkson's work for around 35 years and it feels like he's just been trying to be edgy for the sake of it.

I imagine there would be a certain amount of pressure from his paymasters to say something controversial and Harry and Meghan were probably just easy targets and people that the red top press are quite keen on their coolumnists going after.
