Cleveland Hills - Frozen North Edition

Hacked up onto Urra Moor this afty. Still plenty of snow around, knee to waist deep on the Cleveland Way. Fortunately it has frozen and will support your weight (mostly ). Right on the moor top I came across a young lad in shorts, to my comment "shorts? why the hell didn't I think of that?" he responded "we're dumb townies we didn't think it would be like this". His legs were a very fetching lobster pink in colour. :D

Cracking pics. Feel quite envious, with limited travel I haven't been able to get up on the tops for a couple of weeks now and I'm really missing it. I'll be up on the north pennines and cheviots as soon as permitted though

That's a point, I should stress this was all accomplished from my front door, my house is in this picture (somewhere).

The thing that is hitting me hardest at the moment is not being able to get out into the wilds (trivial I know) so thanks for the great shots, I'm well jealous. Just considering buying a new camera for such trips.

That series of old photographs is amazing. That's a canny spot to live. I was looking on Google Earth earlier to see if I could spot a chicken run as there are not many houses up at the valley head. :)

The 2nd photo with the trig point, I think that may mark the highest point on the North York Moors.

Also have you spotted the carving of the miner in the stone on the incline Chickenrunner ????

Yes it is the highest point in the NYMNP, 1489ft.

The rock carving is supposedly of a 'gaffer' who was in charge of the navvies who constructed the railway, given that he is wearing a top hat. There's also a bird. Earlier in 2020 the NYMNP installed some 'interpretation boards' top and bottom. At the top there's a table with a steel casting showing the original layout at Incline Top. It wasn't nicknamed 'Siberia' for nothing.

Brilliant photo chicken runner, I don't think I noticed the bird when I spotted it. It's on the left hand side as you go up if anyone fancies looking for it...
Some nice walks from Bank Foot. I like the one that goes straight up and over to Baysdale Abbey and back round over the moors...
