Here is a lockdown challenge to help your fitness and wellbeing - we cannot climb up Ben Nevis or unless we live in Great Ayton, even go up Roseberry Topping at present - but how about walking the equivalent up your own house stairs during February. Or even going the extra step(s) and reaching the summit of Everest.
Boro Walkers have combined with MFC Foundation to bring you this special lockdown challenge - bringing the mountain into your home.
Everyone who takes part will receive a certificate to acknowledge their efforts and will be entered into a draw to win some “Boro” treats.
If you want to take the MFC Foundation Climb Any Mountain Feberest Challenge and at the same time raise funds for 2 LOCAL charities who make a difference to the life’s of the most vulnerable people across Teesside email alan.geddes@mfcfoundation.co.uk today.

Is this challenge something lots of us could get involved in from the message board?
5 ascents a day upstairs sees you climb Roseberry Topping during February.
We could get a team together to do Fly Me To Roseberry for February -
Am thinking this could help with wellbeing and fitness for many of us - supporting each other during lockdown.
  • Register your interest by emailing alan.geddes@mfcfoundation.co.uk
  • Set up a Virgin Money Giving fundraising page and get people to sponsor you
  • Choose which mountain you want to climb
  • Climb their staircase the required number of times each day to reach your goal.
  • Take a photo of themselves at the ’summit’ of the stairs during your climb
  • Upload it to social media using the hashtag #FEBERESTCHALLENGE or email it directly to alan.geddes@mfcfoundation.co.uk

I am part of a group doing this in February - not sure which mountain yet but is anyone else out there interested in a challenge you can participate in without leaving your home.

Several of us are embarking on our Climb Any Mountain challenge for the MFC Foundation this morning. If you work quickly you can get on board or else why not support our team as we scale the heights of our own stairs.

You can support us here as we fundraise for our magnificent MFC Foundation

Just scaled Etna for first day. Might upgrade a mountain.
Will see how my knee feels this evening.

We are all on our second day now so hoping that the stiffness etc at the end of day one was just beginners teething problems ha ha.. maybe not.
Anyway, the ascents continue for MFC Foundation.

Plan at the moment is bite off most of the climbs on a morning and then tick off a load more in the course of the day.

Just done my Kiliman-stair-o for the day.
In Day 9 all our team are on track.
Does anyone know of anyone else doing this February challenge for Boro Walkers and MFC Foundation?

Am hoping their are lots or indoor mountaineers around Boro households at present.

Halfway through February and my 88 stair ascents today means halfway up Kiliman-stair-o.
88 ascents for 28 days to get to the top for our Climb Any Mountain challenge for MFC Foundation.

Didn't register, (tho i know Alan Geddes personally) and at 70 with arthritic knees, i wasn't that sure of finishing. Decided i would donate to Grants shirt appeal. Meanwhile, climbing Ben Nevis and still going.

Well done, I wasn't sure about this challenge either, for similar reasons - knee operation. And thought I better not push for the top peak for that reason. You cannot risk permanent damage can you. But so far it is going OK.

Best do my 88 stair case ascents for the day. Not many days left now. I should be able to see the top soon.
Many thanks for all the support this month for our little gang of staircase mountaineers, doing our stuff for Boro Walkers and MFC Foundation.

The latest on our team effort for MFC Foundation is that our summits are coming closer into view - everyone is on track to scale their mountain peaks on Sunday and then our knees and stair carpets will breathe a sigh of relief. Am expecting leaflets through our doors next week from carpeting companies.
We have raised £475 so far for the Foundation and are looking to push on to £500 to help us over the finish line. We have the tricky summit climbs to come this weekend and your financial assistance would help motivate our big finish.
Many thanks

Thank you to everyone that has helped us reach over £600 in our fundraising for MFC Foundation/Boro Walkers.

We got an email from the Foundation telling us what this sum could fund.
£500 - will help feed over 50 school children during lockdown.
allow 250 children to participate in Roary's Class Acts, helping to raise attendance levels amongst Primary School children across Teesside.
enable us to make vital contact with 125 potentially isolated elderly residents.

Thank you again.
One day left of the challenge - onwards and upwards to the finish.
