Conservative poll lead falls by nine points

According to YouGov/The Times the lead is down from 15 points last week to just 6 today. Conservatives fall from 48% to 44% while Labour increase from 33% to 38%.

Ok, I know there isn’t going to be an election for a few years yet. However, straight off the back of the PM’s personal approval rating dropping by 20 points, it’s beginning to look like the British public are waking up.

Anytime I posted a YouGov poll in the run up to the election I was told they were a Tory shill and worthless.

Though I agree I don’t see what a poll achieves when nothing is coming up

In indicates how the general mood is swinging, and tells the government they have misjudged the current situation

Polls around election times I've always been against, they can induce apathy in voters. However post election they are the only measure of how a government is doing.

To see such a huge reversal in the numbers, so quickly after and election, during a national emergency is damning.

It may be temporary, but the risk of it not will alarm Tory MP's especially as its to protect one man, an unelected SPAD, the type of person they spent the election campaigning against.

I think large numbers of people who aren’t really very well informed about politics and just make their voting decisions based on the tabloid headlines and not a lot else, are starting to realise exactly what Johnson is all about. Better late than never I suppose.

I think the real damage to this government will come a year or two down the line when the analysis reveals in cold stark terms, exactly what a mess they have made of handling the pandemic and the 10s of thousands of deaths that could have been easily prevented by acting sooner.

Unbelievable that they have a lead at all to be honest - not that I take much notice of polls

If you'd still rather have this lot in power than anyone else there's just simply no helping you. (Of course most of the country would rather have someone else, they just can't agree on who).

It'll go back up. I have a feeling they are beginning to weather the storm. Yes ministers have humiliated themselves to save Cummings but save him they have.

Agree, can’t believe they got 44%, still it’s a bit too close to the last election for a lot of people to admit to themselves they got sold a dummy by Johnson and the media.

Trump can weather the storm, just deny or protect until it moves on

Difference is British people will remember rather than be rallied by this
