COOLIO DEAD!

Very sad. I remember getting the Gangsters Paradise single for Christmas in 1995(27 years later and I still know every word off by heart). Also one of the early "Gangsta rap" artists to bring that genre of rap mainstream here in the UK and a pioneer in a general sense of bridging the gap for gangster rap becoming mainstream even in the USA. Rapper such as Coolio, NWA, Snoop, Biggie, Tupac all brought the life of people growing up in the Ghettos to attention of the world and gave a voice to the poor communities who couldn't get the message across without tragic consequences.

If he was 23 now but would he live to see 24 in 1995 then he would be 50 in 2022

I was today years old when I found out that Coolio was 32 when he did Gangsters Paradise! RIP

TBF, I didn't expect him to keep updating the numbers as he aged.

Not really a fan of the genre, but despite that, he had several tracks that I immediately recognise and like.

RIP

10 kids, drugs., gangsters, wild, wild women and who knows what else was going on, I'd say he lived a very eventual life.

I loved Gangsters Paradise and listening to it evokes so many memories of that period of my life…I for some reason always remember a lesser known song he did called 1,2,3,4…was pretty catchy…
Also vividly remember him playing really cool on Celebrity Big Brother…eating a really hot chilli and playing it off as if it was nothing…30 seconds later practically turning red and dipping his tongue in a glass of milk…

RIP

Apparently not very happy when Weird Al Yankovic did Amish Paradise

even though it wasn’t his track in the first place

I love the song too - what is the name of the Film with Michelle Pfieffer starring as an ex marine turned teacher, that opened with Gangster Paradise?

As a fairly new teacher at the time forthe film it helped me thinking about teaching in difficult environments and how to achieve what others found difficult.
