Corker of a post on the Mackem's board

Genuinely mad how biased some of you are. Sunderland are very much a proper club, with history, who got promoted. Chill out.
They are definitely a proper club. But for anyone under 60 they are about as mediocre of a club as you can get based on recent history, even behind sides like Wigan and Portsmouth. Minus getting big crowds (which you would expect from a big catchment area) nothing at all makes them the big club they like to think they are.

Considering how Boro are apparently the small club of the north east, all of us have seen our club win a cup, play in a European cup final, and attract players like Juninho. No Sunderland fan will ever experience that.

I work with a bunch of mackems unfortunately, not proper mackems, the 1s that live in the pit villages of County Durham. Worst kind of fans, only pipe up when it’s going well. If anyone tries to have a dig at them they reaction is ‘stop trying to force a rivalry with us’ If you try explaining to them the reason for their big crowds is the huge catchment area, they simply don’t get it ( same as the Geordies)
I simply don’t like them because their fans are deluded, same as Leeds, same as Newcastle and the same as Liverpool. It’s nothing to do with ‘trying to force a rivalry’ with them, it just so happens that the 3 clubs with the most thick, delusional, self loving, attention seeking fan bases are the clubs closest to us. If the North East had as many clubs as the North west does the mackems would struggle to get 30k.

Strange how the turned over the home end to Newcastle in the FA Cup tie, then decorated the bars in black and white. If that’s football heritage then they’re welcome to it.

I've just realised he's got an account on here.

@Joebolton I assume it's the same poster?

I'm interested why you never posted this when you were in League One for 4 seasons?
He’s a shy one, most of them are, close up.

They are like flies round sheite
I’m going against the grain here….

They are in the Premiership
If they get relegated they will be around £100m richer
Wise Men Say is, IMO, an iconic song for them and, btw 10 times better than pigbag

Good to see we laugh at their obsession with us given the frequent posts about them on here.

I was gutted when they went up but, come on, cut them a bit of slack.

Imagine if it was the other way round
id be laffin me heid aff, Bonny lad

Little lad from the fishing village on the coast cowers before the big lad from the big city up the road .
Slopes off to try and find someone smaller to pick on .

Just a very strange post.

They've done brilliantly this season and I have to say I'm envious of that success.

However, as other posters have said - aside from big crowds - they just haven't done anything of note in my lifetime. They finished seventh under Peter Reid and got to a Carling Cup final under Poyet? That's it really.

What annoys me a little about this 'relationship' is how much Boro fans defer to Sunderland when Sunderland try to wind them up about it not being a rivalry.

As a fan you shouldn't need verification from them that "it's a derby' ...who gives a ****? We don't like them and that's all that matters. The more you defer to them and argue back about it being a derby the more they laugh at you. I don't get why people still take the bait. It's embarrassing at times.

"When you watch people playing the 1st bars of Can't Help Falling in Love and immediately every supporter in the land thinks Sunderland."

This doesn't happen.

Neither do references to "great cup finals" regarding Sunderland, or "the Montgomery save" or "the Porterfield goal"
Sadly, they are right about that song. As soon as I hear it the hackles go up and I have to turn the radio off. I was once sat with my wife in a bar on a cruise ship when the acoustic singer started to play it. "Where are you off" she says as I get up and walk out "I'm not sitting here listening to that *****" was my response as exited through the door.

Maybe Boro fans just need to look at a map and see their location to us and Newcastle to realise that, for most Mackems, we are an irrelevance.

At lease we keep them relevant on here…….

I grew watching Tyne-tees television that’s our region, everything in it
Me too - I think they are our rivals, for sure
Just trying to explain why lots/some (delete as applicable) mackems don’t think we are their rivals

I find Sunderland supporters very similar to Leeds supporters in that both fanbases are delusional thinking they are way bigger clubs than they actually are, looking at the bigger picture nationally neither club have achieved anything of note in decades or in Sunderlands case half a century and are not perceived as a threat to the bigger clubs .

As we all know Newcastle and Sunderland have a lot bigger fanbase than us and obviously have a richer history in terms of domestic honours.

I have to say I associate the I can't help falling in love song with Sunderland as it is played every home game just before kick off and it pains me to say its miles better than pigbag which has well and truly had its day.

Don’t think anyone who’s been serious deny that they’re a proper club. I think where the amusement comes from is this belief from them that they’re some huge club to be considered amongst the elite. When I reality, they’re no more special than the likes of Blackburn, Preston, Boro, Derby, Leicester, the Sheffield clubs etc.

Yeah, anyone who has been to a Tees/Wear game will tell you that it doesn't feel like a normal league fixture.

They try and claim that we're desperate to form a rivarly with them and they can't understand why we dislike them. Might have something to do with the fact that many of them appear arrogant and delusional about their club, a bit like the Geordies.

Oh, and not forgetting the disgusting paedo songs they sing every time they visit the Riverside. It's not all of them of course but I'd say a good portion of their away support join in. That in itself is enough of a reason to dislike them.

I agree that some of our fans play into their hands by arguing with them that it is a derby. Just go along with it and then we can laugh at them when they start another 300 paged thread about a club that is totally irrelevant to them.

In my 37 years on this earth we have achieved more than Sunderland.

Yes, Sunderland are a big club if you look at history throughout all of time and yes they have good crowds - when its going well.

The Elvis song is something i never realised until this Play Off run and pretty sure they stole it off Hull or somebody.

Of Course the Netflix show got them a lot of extra attention - most of that attention was comedy due to absolute sh!tshow the club became, it has to be one of the best comedy series i have ever seen.

As we say on here a lot, football goes in cycles, they are riding a mini wave and the deluded fans come out once again. There is even a thread about the '5 year plan' with some genuinely saying in 5 years Europe will be the minimum aim. We shall see.

Posts like this will just make the relegation, dwindling crowds all the more humorous
