Cummings on Sage WTF!!!

Why is our chief science adviser so bloody pessimistic as well.

he said the other day that we might never find a vaccine.

Doesn’t strike me as the most positive person in the world as surely hope is the one thing we that is keeping the world turning at the mo so why try and kill it.

No he doesn’t. Looks to me like you are just jumping on the bandwagon by putting his name in your thread baiting him for a reply. Sure he will be long soon enough to stand his ground.

I am sure he will Kosovo. I won’t reply to you assertation that I am somehow jumping on a bandwagon, as I simply don’t understand what you mean. I don‘t think you do either so that makes two of us.

As you have noticed Cooper behaviour on here you must have also noticed other members putting his name in posts baiting him. Understand now about jumping on the bandwagon. ie - Cooper would like!!!

Not really, as I come on here once or twice a week. In reality, I have had several, generally fruitless discussions with him in which he defends the indefensible and that is why I mentioned him. Hope, that’s okay with you 👌

What a strange man. I couldn’t resist.

John I only ever remember you starting some ranting thread about how people were gonna be told to move round the country to take jobs or lose their benefits. I told you that was rubbish, that is not in the guidance and their is a maximum of 90 minutes travel to work either by walking, driving, cycling or public transport. Which blow a wide hole in your rant.

Might be mistaken don’t recall any others. Also don’t see how I am constantly proven wrong. I don’t come on here to try prove right or wrong I put across my opinion just because you don’t agree with that doesn’t make it wrong

This is what I was getting the other day when we try and goad a poster into a response, all it does is deflect from the absolutely scandalous situation of Cummings and Warner attending supposedly politically neutral SAGE meetings and if someone has a view let them respond or don’t try and second guess. Sorry rant over I just feel as though we’re getting to the stage of dog piling and losing the point and focus of debate.

Anyway there is absolutely no reason for Cummings or Warner to attend SAGE meetings and how can you offer a mantra of following the science when you have policy drivers steering the science ? it’s another massive own goal and example of the utter contempt that Johnson holds those that put him in power.

This Cummins and Warner news better be jumped on at the questions tomorrow. Regardless of your political thoughts it's a national disgrace that these two snakes in the grass are sitting on a panel largely responsible for the safety and recovery of the population of this nation.

EDIT

No mention of it on sky news app? Any other news reporting these allegations?

Cheers AM I don’t need someone to put my name in a thread if I want to respond I will. I did point this out on the thread where you posted it but someone decided your point was mute and if I felt like people were gsnging up so to speak it’s cause I’m posting rubbish basically

I’m not defending this, but at least Warner has a degree and PhD in quantum physics. Cummings’ degree is in ancient history FFS!

Does Cooper need you to hold his hand? He seems, although proven wrong on almost anything he spouts, able to stand his own ground. I made a comment, based upon his behaviour on this site which I think was fair.
Have to agree with Kosovo. Actually my heart sinks when I see somebody say “wonder what Cooper thinks of this”. We know what he would say. His view is of no interest to me but he would join in if he felt it necessary. You are baiting no question. Please stop.

If SAGE members are to give their advice to the government then surely someone has to be there to receive it. I think we would need to know rather more about the role of Cummings and Warner before we condemn the arrangement out of hand. The devil is (or isn't) in the detail.

Cheers zoo. I don’t mind anyone’s view but I don’t call people out. Maybe that is a tad of mutual respect from a postinf side of things.

John seems to have started a thread received some criticism and left

It’s chaired by the Chief Scientific Adviser and also includes the Chief Medical Officer, both of whom attend COBRA. They’re the people who are supposed to relay the scientific advice to COBRA for decision making purposes.

Guys don't you know Dominic Cummins has a degree in Ancient History surely that will prove useful at SAGE meetings?

SAGE should be based purely on science, there should be no involvement at that level with politicians or their advisors, that science should then be presented by Vallance & Whitty at COBRA where policy can be decided based on that evidence.

By having Government advisors at that level you are always going to give the impression that policy is driving the science rather than the correct way round, it taints the neutrality of the committee and neither are qualified to serve any scientific role, which begs the obvious question of why are they there if not to assert Government influence on the science that we are intent on following.

It’s a massive faux pas, it beggars belief that they think that they can say they are acting on the scientific advice when the whole time they are having input on it.
