I remember 1971 Arsenal -Liverpool (Charlie George sorring a blinder) 1973 2nd DIv Sunderland - dirty Leeds (Montgomery saving everything)

The FA cup was really special in the 70s & 80s, until SKY football was introduced in 1991, the FA cup & Charity Shield were the only live games shown on tv.

That can't be true as I remember Boro v Villa being a live TV game in 1988, with Mogga scoring the winner in a 2-1 win at Ayresome Park.

Vaguely remember Wimbledon v Liverpool in 88 and checking the league table trying to understand why Wimbledon beat Liverpool when they were so far behind in the league.
Following year I understood more and loved Liverpool v Everton with Stuart McCall scoring a cracker.
Following year was a cracker of a semi final between Liverpool and Palace. I recorded it and watched it over and over again. I can still recite John Motsons comms for the goals….especially….PAAAARRRDDDDEEEEWWWW!!!
Final was a cracker too! 3-3 draw with Ian Wright getting a couple I think.
91 saw Gazza getting injured and should really have been sent off for the tackle on Charles.

I remember youngsters Howard Kendall and John Sissons being highlighted prior to the 64 game, the first I can remember watching. The season after West Ham won the cup winners cup, I remember that too. The one that stands out from back then was the 66 final, Everton coming from behind to beat Sheff Wed.

First cup final I remember was 1981 Spurs v Man City

used to love it when they went to a replay, Thursday night after Top of the Pops

First for me was Everton v Sheff Wed in 1966. Mike Trebilcock double helping the Toffees come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and an Everton fan being chased across the pitch and eventually rugby tackled by a hatted policeman.

Bobby Stokes 1976! My first cup final memory.

Glued to the TV waiting for the teams to board their coaches at the hotel. Never took my eyes of the screen until the lap of honour finished I think. Hooked on the FA Cup thereafter...

1985 - Norman Whitesides’ classy extra time winner for 10 men Man United. Kevin Moran becoming the first player ever to be sent off in the FA Cup final for almost cutting Peter Reid in half.

Chelsea v Leeds 1970. Great rivalry between those two in those days. I've still got the programme.

(I was a Chelsea fan as a young lad until my dad starting taking me to Boro matches. I blame him).

Funnily enough the Brighton one when Jimmy Melia was in charge in 1983, when they arrived by helicopter and of course Steve Foster with his head band.

100% this. All my first cup memories.

Plus remember being at ayresome park knocking Man City out when they were the league above us. 1992?

First one I remember was 68, West Brom 1, Everton 0. For some reason I was desperate for West Brom to win, and they went 1-0 (Astle) deep in extra time, and I was so nervous, I had to go hide in my bedroom until the final whistle sounded.

I can remember something from most other cup finals since then, up to about 2003, something like that. Since then it seems to have been ArsenalManUManCLiverpoolChelsea.

I just looked it up; in the 32 years since Spurs beat Forest in 1991, only Everton, Wigan, Leicester and Portsmouth in the YEAR THAT WE SHOULD HAVE WON IT HAD WE BOTHERED TURNING UP AGAINST CARDIFF have won it outside those 5. Terrible. I couldn't even remember that Liverpool apparently won it last year on penalties.

Not a League or FA cup final but the play off final between Sunderland and Charlton when Clive Mendonca got a hat trick was a fantastic final. 4-4 and a penalty shootout. The game had everything. The fact it ended with Micky Gray missing a penalty and Charlton getting promoted instead of the Mackems just made it that little bit better too :).

I guess there is that period where you are old enough to follow it fully but young enough to still retain that childlike wonder at the experience. The prime years for me were

1989 Liverpool Everton 3-2 aet

1988 Wimbledon Liverpool 1-0

1987 Coventry City Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 aet

1986 Liverpool Everton 3-1

1985 Manchester United Everton 1-0 aet

Don't really remember any before that and didn't have the same impact after that, usually watching them in pub with mates. I can pretty much remember these ones in detail but struggle to tell you who won in any other year. Apart from 1997 obviously ☹️.

I remember boys going round school asking other kids who they wanted to win between West Ham and Fulham, 1975 FA cup final, I wasn’t interested in football but remember checking who won so I had the right team to be a supporter of on the return to school on the Monday morning. 😁

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace in 1990. An absolute classic. I just remember the blue and red, then yellow and black striped Palace kits in the final and the replay looking class to my 7 year old eyes.

Then the 1991 final when I was hero-worshipping Gazza and Lineker. This was a year before I knew John Hendrie existed, to be fair. I remember my dad saying 'stupid lad' at Gazza when he crocked himself trying to take Gary Charles' leg off.

I remember seeing Jackie Milburn scoring for Newcastle in 1955 on an old black and white tele. The game had hardly started when Jackie put it in the net with his head

Amazing !!
