West Ham are keen to sign Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry in January according to a report from Football League World.

Hammers boss David Moyes may well now have to change his January transfer plans after Angelo Ogbonna was ruled out for probably the rest of the season having sustained an ACL injury against Liverpool on Sunday.

The addition of a new centre-forward will undoubtedly still be the Hammers’ main priority.

But with Ogbonna now out for the long-term, signing another centre-back will be a necessity for West Ham.

And it seems as though Moyes has his heart set on one player in particular.

West Ham eyeing Dael Fry swoop

The Middlesbrough centre-half is on the Hammers’ radar according to FLW.

The Boro ace, 24, is a powerful, aerially commanding central defender.

In 11 Championship appearances for Middlesbrough so far this season, Fry has averaged one tackle, 0.3 interceptions, 3.1 clearances and 1.4 blocks per game. He has also won an average of 5.2 aerial duels per match (Who Scored).

The Boro ace has made 35.4 passes on average per game and recorded a completion rate of 73.3%.

Boro manager Neil Warnock recently described Fry as a ‘revelation’, as quoted by Teesside Live:

“Dael Fry is back now, he’s been a revelation recently and he’s got everything in his game.”

Middlesbrough will demand at least £10 million for the 24-year-old centre-back, according to the Northern Echo.

£10 million seems like a lot of money for Fry considering the fact that he is totally unproven in the Premier League.

Ogbonna’s injury has undoubtedly accelerated our need for a combative centre-half though.

And West Ham could do a lot worse than Dael Fry, that’s for sure.

10mill?

I'd want more to be honest. It's only worth selling well above market value otherwise we don't benefit. We do need to improve the squad and his sale would be one way to give Wilder what he needs.

I'd be looking closer to 15, I mean he's young, talented and english and they still paid twice that for Kurt Zouma and ok he is more proven, but he's also not going to improve at 27 and 4 years at 30mill cost won't be as good value as 8 years at 15mill.

I imagine 8 - 10mil with the majority up front will test us. You'd want a few clauses on top of that linked too international caps and more so a sell on percentage.

I imagine it's about priority positions and where we need to strengthen.

Yep. Also got to take into account they want him mid-season. You want a key player of ours mid-season it's got to be worth our while. Particularly as he'll need replacing and that won't be easy or cheap in January.

15M i think would be fair.

He is quite far from the finished article and even at this level can still be "got at". Not sure he'd be anything but a bench warmer in the PL currently (which is maybe what WH need)

We might have a ready made replacement for Fry......Nathan Wood.

19 now, right age to start getting involved frequently. He's probably quicker than Fry, and stronger than Fry was at 19. He might not have the experience of Fry, but he does have the athleticism and ability to run with the ball that makes him a good candidate for a Wilder overlapping CB.

I don't think Fry can play that way, he would take forever to return back to CD after an overlap.

Wood to replace Fry, then 15 mill for a LWB, a CDM and a striker

"the Boro ace, 24, is a powerful, aerially commanding central defender"

Whilst I rate him and am interested to see how he does in a better coached back line, I don't really think he's either of those things!

Be a dreadful move for him. When others are fit he would struggle for game time. West Ham one of the best Premier outfits at the moment.

If WHU offer £10m, I would not even consider it.

Wasn't Webster around £20m when Bristol City sold him to Brighton.

That's my price, possibly it could have performance stages say £16m plus £2m plus £2m based on Premier League games.

I would bite their hands off for £8 million but only if it was ring fenced for Wilder to spend on wages for the January signings. Never quite sure where our fans get their valuations from?

I think the valuation is based on him (supposedly) being wanted by a team hoping to compete for a champions league place.

Personally I’d be asking for £18m, with the hope of getting £15-16m, secretly thinking £12-14m is about fair.

If a player is moving to the premier league, there’s a premium to pay. If he’s moving in January that’s another premium to pay.

I'm hearing a lot of 15mil+ and I get that's based on Websters crazy fee.

I genuinely think 8-10 is more realistic. That's also usually structured in instalments.

The one thing I would say is that no matter what we potentially get we must add a sell on clause. He would only need one good season and an England call up and he's suddenly worth 5 times what they paid us.

I know that having a 20-25% sell on clause will lower the initial fee paid. I guess it's the gamble of how highly we think he can go. I actually think West Ham a great move for anyone these days. Something 'special' going on... Well until Rice leaves😂
