Dael Fry

Was excellent tonight against a tricky pair. Looked physical and dominant for most of the game.

Massive confidence player. He needs a manager that can bring that type of performance out of him.

He goes through strange spells, he needs to be more consistent but a good night for our defence.

Eh ? Almost every single game he’s a 8/10 and often a 10/10
Super player and is our Tav of the defence

We pressed very well tonight, the subs also made sure that philosophy was maintained throughout the 90 minutes. When you press correctly you give your defenders more confidence and time to anticipate the ball, and it forces the opposing side to make poor decisions. Basically the whole team defended well tonight and Fry commanded his space throughout the 90.

Come off it, rarely do we play that well over 90 minutes where any of our players are 8/10 let alone 10/10. He is a good player in patches. One week he can be brilliant the next he gets bullied by an average championship forward. I dont think the chopping and changing at the back helps but he needs to be more consistent.

Was absolutely baffling earlier this season when Wilder left him out, was almost as if he was trying to put him in the shop window.

For what it's worth, I think Leinhan and Clarke will be excellent defenders for us when the manager doesn't expect them to be secondary wingers and they can concentrate on defensive duties

I said to my brother before the game that I think Fry is one of the best defenders in the league. Granted, his distribution could be better but as far as his primary job is concerned, he's the type of player you build a defence around. Positioning is excellent, recovery is good along with his reading of the game.
Yes, he is definitely a confidence player. One of the first things wilder did when he came to our club was to criticise him for not being vocal enough or being an organiser. Then his form dipped and he had spells on the bench.
Lenihan is both of those things but isn't half the defender that Fry is. I hope he plays every game until now to the end of the season.

We need that central defender of the three to be in the "traditional centre half" mode and Fry fits it well for me. His job is ultimately stopping attacks, mopping up and covering. Let the two alongside him play the ball out.

That said, we're overstocked with those types of players - Clarke and Lenihan also fit the bill but it's Fry's position to lose for me.

It's difficult to pick a first choice back three at the moment but we need to, and fast.

Fry made a couple of bad errors in the second half that could have cost us, but overall it was a good performance. Like the rest of the team, confidence seems to be an issue. A few clean sheets will hopefully sort that out.

Clarke - Fry - Lenihan would be a seriously “no-nonsense” back 3

(if the new regime get them concentrating on actually defending rather than thinking they’re wingers)

That's a fair point raised on positioning. Djiksteele is superior to Lenihan and Clarke though imo. That's why Leo picked him.
Come to think of it my nan could defend better than Clark.

Looks like we played to Daels strengths last night. He was strong and didn’t have to do much with the ball. He seemed more self assured and will probably benefit more than anyone with Wilders exit.
