Decided to take a break from here

I don't think the board was toxic yesterday, there were a couple of threads that created a lot of heat, but just a few posters behind that, half a dozen at most.
I was actually encouraged that the vast, vast majority of people were able to focus on the person that was dying, her family and the impact her death was about to have on many people, rather than the institution itself. That subject is worthy of critique, but I'm glad most recognised that yesterday was not that time.

I never want people to leave the board, it always needs balance.

I can’t deny I was disappointed at a number of posts on the death of our Queen. I get and understand there’s differing viewpoints but for the life of me I can’t understand why supporters of Republicanism chose to post on such a thread. Start your own about the virtues of such beliefs.

I found it equally disappointing my thread was pulled. The strength of any organisation is to be able to accept criticism as well as praise. Sadly this doesn’t appear to be tolerated on here. Something I would urge the owner and admin to reflect on.my initial post had over 40 likes- a record for me! Tended to demonstrate there was significant support for my viewpoint Thanks one and all.

I have been active on this board for around 15 years now- under 2 usernames. I have got involved with the sponsorship of players under the FMTTM banner. Will I continue this? Debatable.

I do recognise I am somewhat Marmite. Some respond positively to my threads and posts - others not! Hey that’s democracy and I respect that.

One thing we are United in is being Boro supporters - and long may that continue.

So for the time being - goodbye. I have no doubt this thread will be pulled so hope as many as possible get the chance to read it in case it does!
You will be missed. I hope when the dust settles, you decide to come back. All the best W_V

I am sure It is quite a feat to administer this and other Social Media message Boards and much has to be self policed by discipline amongst the posting community. Sadly I have witnessed regularly complete acceptance of victimisation and bullying of people of faith on this Board that goes unchecked, quite rightly it would never be allowed if people victimised and bullied people on the grounds of sexual orientation or race, despite the fact faith is equally identified as a protected characteristic in law.
I was disgusted at some posters yesterday, others I didn’t get to read as I have already blocked them as they are not people I would choose to converse with in real life but the future of this Board lies with the respectful people continuing to call out the posters who don’t have the values and respect MFC demands.

I didn't see the thread nor the offensive posts but I think it's interesting a poster has compared (presumably republican) sentiments to the "victimisation and bullying of people of faith". Interesting, because republicans like me see monarchist sentiments as very much akin to the beliefs of 'faith' i.e. not based on any rational principle of organisation nor any scientific evidence. You are arguing with an emotional attachment exalted to the status of truth. And that's why people are inclined to poke fun at these mindsets. Nobody, I think, makes light of the genuine grief of a family in mourning and personally, though I've been guilty of the odd flippant comment, on reflection I do not care to make light of the emotional attachment of the Queen's subjects for their departed Matriarch for, as arch Republican Polly Toynbee eloquently pointed out in today's Guardian, millions of people have viewed her reign, and the progress of her family, as an analogue of their own families: it brings an identification, a tristesse, which is as much about their own passing of time, their own mortality.

There is a much deeper and more important point, however, which is what monarchism represents and how this ideology has always been and continues to be exploited as a means of social control and dominance of one class over others. For like religion, royalism is an ideology, and one which crucially is being used in ever more pernicious ways, as part of an ever-widening Culture War, to push a right-wing authoritarian agenda. And as with religion, however pure may be the hearts of its adherents, it is difficult for people conscious of the need to resist that Culture War with all their might to see monarchist sentiment as not being some way in the service of that wider malignancy.

I'd agree, there were a couple of messages that I felt maybe could have waited a couple of days that were critical of the queen. Like any human she shouldn't be beyond critical comments, but in the emotional drama of yesterday, they probably could have waited a few days/weeks.

I didn't see any of the usual jokes and memes you get when a celebrity figure dies, followed by "too soon". Again, even being a republican I can see that would have been inappropriate and inflammatory.

In the coming weeks, the queens legacy will be debated on here, like every other subject is, and it is absolutely right that those that wish to criticise will be allowed their voice, and not bullied or shamed into silence. Like it or not any royal will be a divisive figure and inspite of having system of royality, we are free to speak our minds. But, that has to come with a modicum of emotional intelligence, so should largely wait for another day.

Personally, on here and in the real world I've tried to give people space to come to terms with this, I've post the odd fact about the system of governance, but strayed away from any personal criticism of her, as it will send her most ardent fans into a rage, I can empathise with feelings of loss, and don't want to upset people further for zero benefit.

This board has some interesting characters on it and admittedly you have to be thick skinned to survive the rhetoric by some of them. Maybe there’s an apt song for this board also… before joining you should “put your dreams away” as they’ll soon be killed off by the loonies on here lol 😆

I’ve dipped into a few other Football messageboards this evening. I’ve read the same sort of stuff. There are even a couple of similar flouncing posts and yes “new lows” This isn’t unique to this board. Everybody writes according to their emotions and have different opinions.

I believe the mods do a great job moderating this Board. Course posts get deleted and inevitably upset the authors. I feel this Board strikes a good balance though between One Boro which is over policed (ask @newyddion) and the “other place” which has very little moderation and therefore an unpleasant read.
I found oneboro to be overly cliquey with a creepy troll like mod. Over policed? I guess I did have all of my content deleted and then blocked and banned forever and ever..

The Queen is dead! I found the whole build up a bit weird even joked about it. When the announcement was made it did hit like a ton of bricks, I’m not a fan of the monarchy.. but it was a huge gut wrenching event! (for me at least.. got over it pretty quick mind) all views and feelings are valid from the boo hoo to the boo hiss. Like it or not tho it does effect us all, in terms of our identity, how we are viewed on the world stage and also different folks will grieve in different ways for different reasons.

Difficult to mod on a message board and be seen to be fair to all or most parties, no doubt folks will have lost close friends and relatives through covid and maybe overreact to the Queen’s passing in one way or another due to not having the chance to say goodbye properly to their nearest and dearest. Who knows? Sometimes things are not as they seem..

Long live King Chuck! The former wannabe tampon? Not worth missing Blackpool vs Boro imo. Lizzie would have loved a black armbanded Boro to stick three points on the table. Only saw her once when she opened up the re-vamped Pallister Park, it felt like a big deal at the time. Saddened by the passage of time, end of an era, hopefully KFC can prove me wrong and offer up something that can unite the country, bring us back together in some way.. here’s hoping!

KFC? You mean the artist formerly known as Prince?

Why do people keep announcing they’re leaving? Nobody cares.
People do care when a member leaves or decides to take a break for reasons that could have been avoided, no one genuinely wants to hurt another member's feelings.

I said in another post, that this can be a great community, people come on here seeking support for all manner of things and the majority of people are willing to offer it. The generosity of fellow posters knows no bounds.

You will always get flippant comments but don't say people don't care on here, because they generally do and look out for each others well-being.
