Derby fans singing about Having a party when Steve Gibson dies

I think it's clearly a reaction to the Gibson chants at the weekend, we've never sung about them before, ever

I beg to differ.

Throughout the late 70s/early 80s, small numbers of away fans at Ayresome were goaded with : "Should have come in a taxi" and also "You're worse than Derby County"

Not sure why we have a little antagonism towards Derby and Forest it's always been the case since I can remember, I have known fans of both clubs and generally they are sound, but Leicester on the other hand....

There was one young lad sat a couple of rows in front of us last night singing the derby song and nobody joined in, really put his heart into it and looked like a fecking numpty while doing so.

we sang that about several clubs, it was hardly the same ball park as wishing someone dead. Derby are traditionally a non-entity with us. They're no different to Charlton, Sheff Wed, Cardiff, or Stoke City

Right, I've just sussed that comments are allowed on the latest article on Derbyshire Live (for the time being). I didn't even need to create an account.

The article stresses that Gibson and Couhig are "reasonable men" but I've just replied to a Derby fan's opening comment claiming the opposite.

It would be great if other FMTTM users add similar, messages pointing out the bleeding obvious about Saint Mel.

But let's keep it civil. We'll never be able to change a blinkered sheep into anything else, but it's an ideal opportunity to put our side of the story on their local newspaper website, which, along with BBC Radio Derby are continuing to pour fuel on the fire.

When I read this suggestion I fear the worst, however there appears to be some very well reasoned and compassionate comments written on there, whilst being sympathetic they have defended Gibson, top stuff, I expected the "you deserve it stuff" but so far great comments!

I see a group of our supporters were singing the exact same song with the words "when derby county die".

Its really difficult to criticise the muppets from derby when we have supporters singing the same.

Wishing that an individual dies is completely different to singing about a football club potentially metaphorically dying. Surely you can see that?

The supporters who sang that I imagine were kids and it’s reactionary to the vile chant sung by Derby scum at the weekend. It’s not great, but it’s to be expected.

You seem more outraged by the chant by a minority of Middlesbrough fans than the initial chant the threads about.

I was wondering if that Rams4life character was a FMTTM wolf in sheep's clothing as he is rather magnaminous.

I've avoided trawling through Derby forums linked on here, as I need to look after my blood pressure and would inevitably find posts that would rile me.

I can see some light at the end of tunnel, but suspect there will always be 'fans' whose options won't change.

But the real football fans will appreciate our support and maybe redirect their ire towards the real culprit.

Well I had my doubts but I'm impressed, really well written and not insulting anyone or laughing at them, I feared it would descend into that but when I looked it was all very well written

I've not met anyone in the real world (away from social media) in or around m/bro who want derby to go into liquidation and yet here we have fans singing and posting this on the internet.

Embarrassing 🙈🙈🙈
That's disappointing to read. As I said the other day, we really need to show our class here and show support for Gibson, rather than mock Derby and celebrate the idea of them going bust.

It will backfire badly on us because at the moment the reality is most neutral fans will be more disgusted about us singing about a football club dying, than they would be regarding Derby fans singing about Gibson dying.

it wouldn't even metaphorically die, it would be relegated 5 divisions and rebranded. The idea that Derby in some form wouldn't exist is silly

Of course. There is a precedent. Rangers

Derby Co.will never die. Just like Boro never did back in 1986.
Theres a locked in customer base of 30,000

Maybe not a popular opinion but I couldn't care less what a bunch of drunk yobs are singing about Gibson. This will all be forgotten about soon enough.

Of course I can see the difference hence my quote;

"There is a distinct difference but I dont think it reflects well on our club that we have fans gloating about another club falling into liquidation particularly as it directly contradicts the views of the vast majority of our fans."

Is that outside pride park roofie?
Derby City Council are joining in a Campaign to stop their fabulous club from going up the wall - by helping to put those signs up all over the City!

Billboards in support of Derby County go up across the city

City council giving campaign a boost

These billboards will become a familiar sight across the city over the next few days as Derby City Council puts them up at the side of key roads.

Hundreds of Rams supporters are getting ready to take part in a march ahead of Sunday's game against Birmingham as part of the Save Derby County campaign.

But uncertainty continues to reign at Pride Park as the battle to save the club, which is in administration, continues. In the meantime, the city council thought it would be good to show support across the city.

A council spokesman said: "So we got in touch with Jake Barker who has already done some crowd funding for a Save Derby County flag and he really kindly gave us some artwork to use.

"They’ve been installed on pre-existing boards that we sell for advertising, so we were able to print and install them at cost.

"Hopefully, it's an extra show of support across the city, alongside the work everyone is doing behind the scenes with the administrators."

The billboards will be in Pride Parkway, Hampshire Road, Spondon, near to the Asda island and near to the Assembly Rooms in Derby's Market Place.

Three parties remain interested in buying the club, which has been in administration since September, but a preferred bidder is yet to emerge.

Talks are ongoing between administrators Quantuma and the EFL, who want proof of how the club will be funded for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, supporters have been mobilising in a bid to save their club and Derbyshire MPs have called for talks between the EFL and Derby County's administrators at the end of the week.

The Conservative MP for Mid Derbyshire, Pauline Latham, has said that MPs and "local representatives" have asked for a meeting on Friday.

The EFL had previously said that evidence that the club could see out the season financially was needed by the end of the month and the last time Derby's supporters heard from the club's administrators was at the end of last week.

Robert Lindsay: 'Power to the people' to save Derby County

1643266751696.png
Actor and Derby County fan Robert Lindsay says he has been rallying other famous supporters to help keep the club alive.

The Rams are in a race against time to find a new buyer after going into administration last year.
Lindsay, best known for his roles in Citizen Smith and My Family, is a long-time supporter of the club.

He cited his character Wolfie Smith's catchphrase "power to the people", as he pledged to help the club survive.
The Championship side face expulsion from the league if they cannot secure their financial future but a potential takeover is being threatened by legal cases brought by other clubs.
Robert Lindsay

Mr Lindsay was born in Ilkeston in Derbyshire

Mr Lindsay said he left Derbyshire aged 17 to live in London but still regards it as his home.
"The town and the community of Derbyshire mean a lot to me - I love the people, I miss the people, I go back a lot and I love going to Pride Park," he told BBC Radio Derby.

He said he had "so many happy memories" from supporting the club, including taking his father to the opening of Pride Park Stadium and recording the anthem Steve Bloomer's Watchin', which is still played at matches.

The prospect of the club folding would making his father "turn in his grave", Mr Lindsay said.
Derby County fans

Derby County fans have been backed by supporters from other clubs

He has discussed the Rams' predicament with another celebrity Rams supporter, actor Jack O'Connell, and the pair hope to get more high profile fans on board.

"Niall Horan from One Direction is a big fan, we've been trying to get hold of him," he said.

"We can add to the voices. Hopefully we have a bit of sway, we have a bit of prestige in our industry."

But he acknowledged a solution to the deadlock threatening the club's future would need to come from within football.

"I think the demands by Wycombe Wanderers and Middlesbrough, these grievances should be put aside at the moment," he said.

"I think clubs need to stand together."

On Friday it was reported a wealthy US family, based in New England, had made a formal offer to buy Derby County.

Haha people actually defending songs about hitting people on the head such it was different back then, and this smells of something different

trust me it wasn’t okay to tell a football player they take it up the backside. And I’m sure we would still sing the song ‘town full of rent boys’
