Derby to pay Richard Keogh £2m

Because mainly he's a role model to not only the club and the fans, but to the community and getting in the car knowing full well the driver was well over the limit and intoxicated just doesn't cut the mustard.

By getting in that car, he pretty much accepted the decisions of his fellow players/colleagues. Something a captain, leader and role model should have not done.
All players are role models, all are expected to act professionally, legally, and not to bring the club in to disrepute. So all should have been sacked. If Keogh wasn't injured in the accident they probably wouldn't have sacked him. They saw no value in him as a footballer anymore so decided to make a financial decision and rip up his contract. They felt the other 2 lads had valuable contracts and would be able to contribute to the team. You can't rip up a contract because a player is injured.

I thought both the other lads were drivers, they were basically racing each other drunk, through country roads and town streets
If that was the case and both were driving (and racing each other) and Derby decided to keep those two and sack Keogh, then again, I hope Keogh takes them to the cleaners.

Time will tell. I reckon this will go one way to Keogh sadly.
Keogh will not win it tbh.
Don’t feel too much for him.
Huh?
it's not great, but we have played by the rules, they haven't, totally different scenario
You haven't got any clues at all.
Hope he wins after what they did to him.

He was an idiot and deserved to be sacked, however, the way Derby FC went about it, is a disgrace and I for one is backing Keogh to shaft them for as much money as possible.
Marv we did the right thing to sacked him for some reason and also we offered reduced contract for him if Keogh want to stay at the club and accepted consequences but no Keogh acted like nothing happened. We actually offered club transport for him to go home but he told the driver to go without him etc. For your second bit on bold bit in your post you're backing Keogh to shaft us ? The same Keogh who lied to the police of who he is? I mean he told them that his name Alfie? Not so clever to lie about that eh. Wake up.
Don’t give a monkeys about other clubs debt!
You should be to be honest N.K.
I don't agree with the fact Derby didn't sack those other two players. I think they should have gone also. The driver more than anyone!

And the fact Derby sacked their captain who was a passenger (purely because of his age and the contract he was on) and yet kept two younger players (one of which was the driver) is wrong.

There was 3 options they could have chose to do:
- Sack all 3
- Fine/punish (but keep) all 3
- Sack the driver and fine/punish the other 2

Instead they chose to keep the driver and the younger passenger and sack the other passenger who was older and on more money.

As I said above, don't agree with Keogh's actions during the incident, but the way Derby have acted, I hope Keogh wipes the floor with them.
Hahahaha give over.

Stop it you're embarrassing yourself. You haven't got a clue what happened to the incident that night. Stop making things up.

Talk about defending the indefensible. You're defending your clubs actions to sack your captain but keep the other two players?

I couldn't give two sh!ts if Keogh lied to the police....that's pretty irrelevant in this case.

If those other two footballers got to keep their job (who were more to blame than Keogh) then why on earth did Derby decide to sack Keogh?...It just so happened that Keogh was a high earner on a big contract and was in his twilight years of his career...what a lovely coincidence...

Derby FC have no one else to blame but themselves if Keogh ends up winning his court case against them.

And if Derby are found guilty of unfair dismissal, then they deserve to pay the compensation.

It's a bit rich defending your club when their decision making (in this case) is looking to be amateurish at best.

Reeks of out of court settlement - neither will want this dragging out it doesn't look good for all parties.

What I can't believe is how Sunderland manage to get taken over yet Derby's seems to be falling through.

Truly basket case of a club from top to bottom - Wayne Rooney must think he could walk into any job with this experience.

I would guess we are in the top 3 for levels of indebtedness. Our position means we couldn’t be sold even if Gibbo wanted rid. I think indeedido reported the value of the club was - £85 million. That is why calling other clubs out on levels of debt is not something we can talk about - given ours!

This chart is from the 2020 Deloitte report. Of course Derby haven't filed their 2019 accounts.

Not sure I understand your thinking. You say he deserved to be sacked but you hope Derby lose their appeal against the tribunal decision that he was sacked unfairly? Surely if they took correct decision to rip up his contract then you believe they should win their appeal or are you suggesting mitigating circumstances in the way they went about it.

I think he deserved to be sacked....but fairly.

He lost his job (and IMO rightly so), but so should have the other two in this case and yet they didn't.
