DJed Spence - what an assist

Didn't CW say something along the lines of he didn't believing in re-calling a player whilst on loan when asked about Spence? Whilst also pointing out he is still our player.

What's the score with Hayden Coulson at Ipswich?

Is he injured? In the squad?

I'll like to see if he could be Wilder's Issy on the left.

I've seen enough of him before he left that makes me think he could do it.

How many of our current players are worth what Spence is now
We have different opinions on him
He is with a manager who believes in him
Warnock didn’t and that is why he didn’t perform.
Let’s hope also that Jones isn’t injured or loses form
You are not looking at the bigger picture
Yet you didnt think to raise this during our excellent run, waiting until we lose a game & Forest win

Still badly injured from a knock in November, not training with the main Ipswich squad yet.

No Erimus
I raised it at the time Spence went on loan
We are strengthening a rival I thought
One thing is for sure- Forest are better with him in their starting eleven.
Let’s hope they don’t pip us to a playoff spot eh?
I don’t get this CW did not want upset Isiah by bringing him back here
You strengthen us and weaken them it’s that simple and CW would have motivated Spence to play for us if it had been necessary.

If I was to make a bet who will progress more Spence or Jones money would be on Jones.
To be fair plenty of fans were starting to groan about Spence lack of an end result, weak positioning. Jones is progressing and has already assisted in several goals.
I see it developing this way, Spence will do well at Forest and a bigger club will buy him and the Boro will benefit, will Spence push on from there and have a top career I'm not sure I think he will flatter to deceive. I am not aware that he has slagged the club off in any way.
Jones will progress with us for a few years and be bought by a bigger club and we will get another good fee, good luck to him I hope he has a top career as he is a player who excites.

We like 90% of the clubs cannot compete financially against the top teams who can offer Europe, trophies and almost guaranteed consideration Internationally, sadly that's the way it is.

The lad couldn't defend
I watched that game v Arsenal the other day and he showed plenty of defending skills.

I would hope that everybody would agree that a player can improve and develop with the right coaching, and when a player enjoys his time doing his job. it is very clear to me Spence is an exceptional player with a big future. Whether or not that improvement in performance is down to a new manager and environment , it was clear that he didnt enjoy his time with us under Woodgate or Warnock or just perhaps he couldn't settle in the North East.

I am convinced now he is being sold to fund other olayers but if there was an opportunity to get him back then should we have him? - too bloody right we should. However sadly I think his ship has sailed away from us. We are fortunate to have another classy RWB in Jones who is our talisman at the moment.

Wish Spence well.

Reading through this thread there are a few things I disagree with

Jones has to play on the right as his main strength is going on the outside of fullbacks (usually from a Crooks pass) and getting crosses from touchline, this is not the same on left.

If we had recalled Spence at start of Jan he would only be worth half what he is supposed to be now as his new best mate Ian Wright wouldn’t have 'bigged' him up on ITV.

seems Wilder does not want him anywhere near here
That's not the impression given by the Gazette article about him. It stated that the club was interested in bringing him back but it was Spence who didn't want to return.

Boro had been considering a recall for the wing-back this month

And it certainly sounded as if Wilder would have liked Spence to be here, given that he said the following:

"I think we all understand that he might not be a player I would have allowed to go out."

However, according to Wilder, when he spoke to Spence:
"He made that perfectly clear to me that he wants to stay there."

Not according to anything I've seen. In the Gazette article linked to above he gave a number of reasons but that wasn't one of them.

I really don't get the excitement over Spence. He had a few decent games for us, and is playing well in a Forest team, currently riding the crest of a wave. He had more bad games that good when he was here. Let's not pretend that he's the next Cafu.

If we can get anywhere close to the £12m being touted for him it will be daylight robbery.

I hope he goes on to have a good career in the game, but I would also hope that he recognises that it was Boro, and Jonathan Woodgate, that gave him the opportunity to kick start his career. Not to mention JW putting his arm around him and making sure that he was alright. Turning your back on the club that gave you that opportunity shows a lack of class in my opinion.

Simple question is, would he get in our team at the moment?

It's an obvious NO. Jones is a level or two above him.

He's pulling up trees with Forest, and his value is going up by the hour.

He's clearly got an attitude problem too, so this suits us. If we get more than £6m for him in the summer I'll be over the moon.

Quotes of £10m have been thrown about. That seriously would be incredible business, for someone we picked up for next to nothing.

Jones, Crooks, McNair, Tavernier, Fry, Sporar and I dare say Coburn will be soon.

I like Spence but he's not our player at present and I don't think he will be again.

If he had stayed, would Jones have played?

I think there is only one of us on here not seeing the bigger picture here. Wilder could have brought Spence back but didn't see the need. He obviously believes in Jones and didn't need Spence coming back and potentially upsetting the current setup.

I do hope the kid goes on to better things and makes a real name for himself.
Actually he is our player, he’s contracted to us and we could have recalled him.

Premier league clubs struggle to retain two really good players for one position for very long.
Even if Spence is that good after his time at Forest (he certainly wasn't whilst here) then a Championship Boro can not expect to develop both Jones and Spence.
If we go up then Spence will be back here in the summer and I'm sure will declare undying love for the club and we may well have two good players for the RWB position. No transfer fees and two good options for an important Wilder position.
If we don't then we will sell him for a huge profit to reinvest on a promotion push.

Simple question: would anybody choose Spence over Jones, and if so why?

Pedantic to say the least.

You know exactly what I mean when I said 'he's not our player at present.' Yes, we could have recalled him but, like mentioned above by others, Wilder chose not to for reasons none of us will ever be privy to. So at present, he is unavailable to us for the rest of this season and I don't think he will ever wear the red shirt of Boro again.
