Do we have to keep warnock next year?

I have no doubt that if this run was under Pulis, the fans would want him gone today. The football is no better and the results are worse.

However. I think it would be a huge mistake to get rid of Warnock. He’s the best we can realistically hope for at this level, he needs to get expensive donkies like Assombalonga off the wage bill and the recruitment team need to stop giving him absolute s**t like Akpom.

If we get a goal scorer for next season, we’ll be in the play-offs

We are still burdened by the last of the Monk/pulis horror buys and contracts. Thank God the squad will be free of more of them this summer.
Without Fry we are suspect at the back, without Morsey we are puny in midfield, without Tav we have nothing going forward, bar Watmore.
The January window was a gamble that has not worked at all, any of it.

Assombolonga, Fletcher and Johnson will be off.
Bettinelli, Bolasie, Kebano will go home.
Mendez Laing and Archer will be released.

I wish to God Saville and Akpom could be sold, but I don't think anybody will buy them.

We do have the nucleus of a decent side with Fry, Bola, Dijksteel, Morsey, Tavernier and Watmore.
We have some decent others in McNair and Hall. Howson too but is fading markedly.
Given the summer departures we will have room in the squad to recruit.
But we desperately need quality.

Warnock will need to have a great transfer window. If the Academy has good players, use them for numbers of cover; focus the recruitment on quality.
I think it is possible he will do it.
The season is fizzling out so I understand the frustration of some, but a top half finish is real progress on last season, that is fact, and I didn't expect any better given the shyte that was in the squad.

People need to be careful what they wish for. If it wasn't for Warnock we would be in League One right now without a shadow of a doubt. I agree that at times this season we haven't been easy on the eye and we've let ourselves down with poor mistakes. Bettinelli has been a poor signing no question and so has Akpom.

We need to look at the bigger picture though, here we have a manager at the helm who has more promotions under his belt than anyone else in English football. I'm disappointed with the way the season is ending and some of the players are clearly going through the motions (something you never expect from a Warnock side). But don't think for one minute this would be tolerated next season. This is Warnocks last season in management coming up and he's a determined little b***r. He will want to go out with a bang, no question.

To move him on now would be bizarre to say the least. I'm fully behind you Neil anyway if you're reading. UTB!

We would have been happy with mid table after last season. We flirted with the playoffs but the sides in the top 6 are simply far better than us.

I think its simply a case of we cannot do without Fry and Tav. The stats pretty much show that. We have also lost Morsy and Dijksteel for the season. We are pretty much on the bones of our ass. 5 subs yesterday.

I also think we are in this awkward position of having nothing to play for. 'Like it or not' players minds won't be in it as much as they should be. Also 3 players leaving and loan signings all thinking about what's happing next season. They are simply no longer invested in the club and its 'vision'.

I would happily end the season today. I am still pretty confident we can mount a challange next season if we can find 2 forwards and a bit more depth. I am not overly confident in the recruitment of these players or even finding them.

I have to agree that the January signings have simply had no effect. Although in NML and Bolasie they hadn't played for a year so hardly suprising. The only one I would really hammer the gaffer for is Akpom. In the current climate 2.6mil is a fair wedge to blow on a forward who simply doesn't look like scoring. Just look on Wikipedia and it will tell you he's a 6-8 goal a season man at best.

He is now the 4th manager who's failed to get us scoring. A few weeks ago sky said we had scores 116 goals in 106 home games. That is absolutely shocking and goes back many years and managers. The only constant is that they probably all had the same dross forwards Monk signed.

It's a shame if this season fizzles out and we finish 14th. So many positives like Bola / Fry / Dijksteel / Tav / Morsy and Howsons pre Xmas form. I really wouldn't want that all undone. We need to take some kind of form into next season.

Few fans don’t like what they see and want the manager out. Only for the next one to come in and they’re happy, until we have a few bad performances and the want him out, and so it continues.

If you can’t see that the club as a whole has improved beyond recognition in less than a year then I really do wonder if some of you have the first clue about football, you sound like Geordies ffs.

The players signed in January were universally applauded by us all, the only reservations were about some having no game time but their quality wasnt in question and we were all happy with them. Even previously Betinelli who has been poor was in the England squad a year or 2 beforehand. They haven’t got us in the play offs so you decide the manager has to go?

Reading this thread is so disheartening, like a load of kids who take their ball home because their game isn’t going how they want. Improvement is needed next season and I for one am sure we’ll get it, as I’m certain Warnock will be too. I know modern football fans want instant success every time changes are made but ffs surely year on year improvement is all you can ask?

Take no bluddy notice mate - some read too many "stats" sites and think humans can be programmed like robots.
Half of them cant manage to get up in the morning let alone advise a manager how to manage.
The "big picture" for some means not whats outside - but how large their Tele is - bolted to the wall!
You only learn what success is by experiencing defeat and learning from it.(y)

My only real dissatisfaction is he has signed some garbage akin to the likes of rubbish signed under previous managers. Hall, Akpom, Moray offer little. I am a bit disappointed that some of the youngsters like Spence and Coulson have gone backwards, but that may be due to the fact that they are not as good as we had hoped they were.

All said and done our strike force is atrocious and if he can sort that out then a promotion push is on the cards next season.

Ruddy hell, it’s like the night of the long knives reading this thread (said with tongue in cheek).
I like Neil Warnock and if it wasn’t for him then I’m certain we would be in League 1 right now. However my main concern already is who is going to replace Neil when he retires this time next year?
I’ve said this before and whoever we bring in will need to play around the same system as Warnock otherwise we will be “rebuilding” yet again as Warnock’s signings might not suit the style of football for the next manager or fit in their system. We would then be back to square one yet again with “rebuilding” for the new manager.
Recruitment will be huge this summer and finding Warnock’s successor should begin right now for this time next year.

I can't imagine who would be a better option. He's honest, direct and positive (attitude) but limited by the squad we have and what's he's been able to add.
There are some good young players in this side. We need a striker (or two), a keeper, and a bit more guile and experience to hold it all together. I would not be swapping manager's now.

I would say Morsy at 1mil and Hall for nothing are decent signings. Then again Woody actually signed Hall who's been one positive in recent weeks (even yesterday).

The spence and Coulson thing is interesting. Yes they appear to have gone backwards but they were part of a team that was in free fall under woody. Defenders that can't defend.

Hopefully Aitor back who knows.

genuine question to those slating Warnock and wanting him to go ..... Who do you want to take over?? Be careful what you wish for. A lot of the players he’s brought in weren’t his first choices, but he had to bring someone In because otherwise we’d have been relegation candidates. Finishing mid table with a team that can’t score goals isn’t that bad.

Manager is only as good as the players he has got. Is Woodcote a better manager because he is above us in the table? No he inherited premier league players.
