I thought the same, but I think we all know 100% that if the roles were reversed Hellbergs feet wouldn't have touched the floor - along with all coaches involved, analysts etc.

We absolutely would not have sat back and defended the indefensible.

If we had done this, and Gibson had taken the same stance, I honestly would be done with the club.

It’s just embarrassing!
That poor lad is being completely chucked under the bus for the second time!
I can’t believe they are trying to make out this is all his fault, again, for basically knowing it was wrong but not complaining loud enough about it, or going to top level managers!
Awful, awful culture and people at the club.
 
Can't see how he's not getting banned. That's the precedent for this (in fact for a lesser offence).

And if he is banned you wouldn't put it past Southampton to take the **** and effectively ignore it would you?

"Oh we didn't realise a ban meant he couldn't take training or pick the team. One of our interns should have told us that really. What do you mean further points deduction? It's not fair you won't let us do what we want".

Biggest baby of a club I've ever seen. Making Real Madrid look like a paragon of class.
 
Probably the right move (commercially) for Saints. If he's sacked without a ban it could get messy - I'm sure there are clauses in his contract adverse to this type of behaviour but claims and counter claims could take a while re: any payoff.

Much easier for the FA to ban him which I would imagine would be cut and dried gross misconduct in his contract and easier/cheaper to get rid.

They’d be better off doing a ‘no comment’ interview.

My realistic hopes are banned implicit staff and further points deduction.

My nuclear hope is outright ban from all FA competitions for a season.

I’m not so sure it was the right move commercially?
Would it not have been better to simply say they won’t be commenting while an FA investigation is ongoing, rather than publicly back the cheat, double down on his actions and attempt to throw the young lad who has allegedly been bullied under the bus again?

It’s a completely tone deaf, inappropriate, insensitive and ludicrous statement and was probably completely unnecessary.

Can only think this is PR, all damage limitation as they fully expect to be hit with heavy punishments by the FA.

It's like someone being charged with murder, but because they co operated with the Police and admitted they did it their sentence is reduced from life to 25 years.

The thing they have forgotten is they went from total denial (pre second game) rubbishing claims, to now fully admitting it ....so soz, can we just move on.

Living in a MAGA esque parallel universe.
