Chelsea's longest serving player in their current squad leaves after nine and half years and having only made three senior appearances and had eight loans.

These teams buy these players hoping they will come good and are willing to stand the cost if they don't.

Lucas Piazon played - well, technically at least - under eight different Chelsea managers but he has now left the club for good.

I agree but chelsea loan/youth/reserve programme is basically a money laundering scheme.
Asthe volumes are so ridiculous that they were never intended to ever play for Chelsea. Was it over 30 players they had out loan the other year.
 
I don't blame Chelsea; the loan system allows them to do it.

If numbers of loans were more tightly controlled, more youngsters would be released from top academies and sign fulltime contracts with other clubs.

The loan system as it is allows the big boys to make lower league teams their feeder clubs.

All these clubs are using the rules to their full advantage and like Rob says, plundering young talent in the hope they unearth a real gem.

This area of football needs governing further to prevent it from continually happening.
 
Does anyone know who Chelsea's longest-serving player is? Clue: he's played more games for Middlesbrough than Chelsea.
