Ex pfc wintergreen and DrummerMan

I usually despair when admin close a thread but they really should on this one.

The two individuals concerned have been put on the naughty step and that should be the end of it.

This thread is now turning into the same kind of slanging match that got them banned in the first place.
Agree totally, squabbling from posters in these circumstances is not good.

What about the brexit crap that gets thrown around on here?
We've had folks been called simple, scummy, uneducated. Those who voted for brexit have had harm wished upon them etc.
Brexit is the biggest single political divisive thing in my lifetime, it was Tory ideology that brought it to attention. The insults go in both directions on this one.

Regarding uneducated, I'll repeat again, there is a clear correlation between education in a constituency and that constituency voting remain. In the past I have provided the publicly available datasets necessary to correlate, and asked anyone to disprove it....still waiting. That isn't to say that every brexit voter is uneducated, or that every remainer is educated, but the correlation exists and really isn't surprising.

I haven't seen the term scummy used personally, on either side.

I've never seen people wishing physical harm, but happy for you to highlight it. If you mean people wishing that job losses and financial issues happen to brexiteers first, that again is simply about taking accountability and responsibility for your decisions in life.

All I've seen is certain posters rolling this out over and over again, playing the woe is me card.

I've happily called posters who happen to support Brexit stupid when they've said something stupid. I will do again. It's nothing to do with their politics.

Generally what politicians do day to day rarely has a massive effect on our lives.
But with Brexit and the Virus both coming at the same time we have issues that we've all been affected by..... some of us to deadly effect and the failings of Govt have been laid bare.
Probably just about the two biggest events with the biggest effect on us since the second world war.
Tbh the way society is I'm suprised the reaction hasn't been worse.

If I recall correctly, the correlations you provided were between voting and formal qualifications, not education.

Interesting.
Only interesting in the sense that it displays that the authors aren't very well-educated, although I'm sure they have formal qualifications. They appear to conflate the accumulation of educational qualifications with educational attainment.

Quite stark really.
You can read into it what you will but the higher the qualifcation the less likely you were to vote for Brexit.
Or you could say the bigger the halfwit the more likely you are to have voted leave.

So as a community we have learned nothing.
Seems that way. As long as you are anti brexit and anti Tory then excuses are fine, so it seems.
Stuff that has been posted as attacks on red, blue, yellow, green, purple and polka dot is still a bad idea. I've certainly looked at my political posting and given my head a wobble after yesterday's violence.

I am against brexit but try and look at threads from a balanced perspective and the finger pointing and name calling is obscene, toxic and uncalled for and is justified by... well who knows, I certainly don't understand it.

What I know for an absolute fact is that the conversations that go on here would never happen in the real world.

I would imagine that the single biggest factor for an area voting to leave the EU would be social and economic rather than education. It just so happens that education correlates closely with social and economic factors.
that of course leads to the question are socio-economic factors driven by education or is education performance driven by socio-economic factors.

Some of the worst performing schools in the country are in those deprived areas.

I would guess at the second correlation, not the first, that is based on just a couple of drivers though.

nobody has supported acts of violence or unadulterated abuse towards brexiteers. Stop playing the victim.

If you say something nonsensical or based on faith not fact, I'll challenge it. If you say something that is abusive I'll call it out. That is just holding people to account for their actions.

What I won't do is just throw abuse out simply because of the decision you made

Some do though BM. And as for tossing abuse out, we shouldn't do that, in any event.

Formal qualifications are about as good a measure of education as you will find...that's erm the very purpose of formal qualifications
Only across a fairly narrow age cohort (at least in England and Wales). Grade inflation has rendered unadjusted time-series data of little value. The main predictor of educational qualification is age, which is strongly correlated with how (and if) people voted in the referendum.

of course age is a factor, but huge numbers of people have had access to further and higher education for 35 years, those people are now approaching 60. It's only the over 60s that didn't have easy access and over 60s and to be honest with life expectancy in those deprived areas, there aren't as many of them. So it evens up and makes education a stronger factor.

I'm not playing the victim.
If someone says something abusive you'll call it out? So where were you and which side of the fence were you stood on when some on here were called simple? Or where were you when some on here were in favour of the unvaccinated been declined medical treatment on the NHS?

Yep.

Exactly.

Good day to you Mart, I trust your weekend will continue to be a good one.
