F1 : Hypothetical Life After Lewis

One mumbled throw away expression of disappointment after being absolutely robbed has led to all sorts of nonsense. I think he will be back.

If he does not come back, then Mercedes have almost nothing to gain by bringing Bottas back into the fold. He has proven time & again to not be good enough to win a WDC even in the best car on the grid. They may as well use the Hulk or one of their juniors. Or even go to their friendly customer team Aston Martin and bring in one of their drivers instead. Vettel in a Mercedes would be one of the weirdest things to happen in F1, but why not?

Does Toto Wolff still manage Ocon?

Anyway, I fully expect Hamilton to stay.

In fairness to go-nads, I can see why some people don't' take to Hamilton.

I remember a couple of years ago he was on SPOTY and was interviewed live by Linekar. Hamilton said something like F1 allowed him to "get out of the slums". I cringed and thought there's no wonder some don't like you! Hamilton did quickly address that comment, but it was a bit telling.

I find it more confusing these days. He’s matured into such a decent person. Someone on here said they don’t like his politics. Fair enough but his politics seem to be a quest for equality, campaigning for LGBQT+ rights in countries where there are none and care for the environment. It takes all sorts but it just surprises me when people don’t like these causes.

Wow some of you have really gone for a poster because he had the affrontery to suggest that LH might have a narcissistic part of his personality, guess what it's not uncommon for most people to have at least some aspect of that in their personality and I include myself in that just as much everyone else. My view is that LH's (in)action is just as powerful message as if he shouted out how the last race was a joke, he is using an very effective way to provoke change, the press are talking constantly about it and for the people who own F1 they must be running scared that LH wil walk away and with it one of their true global assets and audience draw. LH is asserting his Value to them in a very effective way.
Yes if someone said I was a Daily Mail reader I hear the negative implication in it, on this forum it as good as calling someone as a racist.

But none of what you have described is attention seeking which is the accusation made in the OP.

Have you ever been to Stevenage?

mean streets indeed.

Yeah thats what I dont understand about it all, yes he has a competitive edge which may mean some dont like him, I can accept that even though every other driver on the grid is the same or in some cases far worse, but criticising him for his politics is just wrong. How could anyone have a problem with someone pushing for equality?

Signed a 2 year contract when it looked like he would not win the title. He is desperate to win that 8th title to confirm his position as GOAT. If he does he comfortably leads all statistics. He was more likely to walk away if he won in Abu Dhabi.
The lad is gutted with what happened in that last race but had the dignity to congratulate Verstappen and is being quiet now on the basis of "if you have nothing good to say then say nothing". He will be back and he will win the title this year and then retire. His only challenge will be from his exceptionally talented team-mate

I suspect Lewis will race in 2022. If he doesn't the reserve driver (Hulk?) will step up.

The farce in Abu Dhabi needs to be addressed. Team Principles (Wolff and Horner) should not be able to talk to the Race Director during a race or at least we shouldn't be hearing it, it made Masi's job more difficult than it should be. It made him part of the "show". He isn't and shouldn't be. The other thing is we need to have assurances from Liberty Media that this will remain a "Sport" not become some sort of WWE on wheels fans who have followed F1 for years need to know what the intentions of the owners are. If they want it to be a show, fair enough it's their toy now, crack on (without me and a lot of other motorsport fans)
I believe it's already been decided that teams will not be able to talk to the race director anymore about stuff other than safety issues.

I'd love to see Hulkenberg given the chance of a top drive should Hamilton call it a day (which he won't). Russell is definitely one to watch out for this season though that's for certain as is Perez.

Absolutely. He's using his position in an attempt to make good things happen. He deserves respect for a lot of things. Not least being a black man from a normal background going on to dominate and be the best in a sport historically for rich white people.

My only gripe with Lewis is that he is just so damn good that he made the sport boring for a while due to his brilliance and domination. He comes across to me as a fine gentleman, very sporting and unfairly labelled as a tax dodger.

If only more sports persons could behave like Lewis and actually try to make the world a better place....

One of the few left on the grid that didn’t earn their spot by being born into millions, it doesn’t get mentioned enough

F1 is a sport that requires fire, energy and 100% desire to even get behind the wheel. If after the events of last month, Hamilton gets behind the wheel and does not have the above anymore, he will quit.

I definitely wouldn't blame him either.
