FA Cup Replays are back....

Replays for smaller clubs could well be a lifeline to their survival. The potential Tv income, a draw at home and a potential big away day. I don’t want to see those opportunities go away. Penalties are a bad way to decide an FA Cup tie, can encourage negative tactics.

Clubs needing FA Cup replays to remain financially viable isn't a great reason for me.

It is a cup tradition - surely we all still love these traditions - I welcome a return to replays. How many underdogs will hope to celebrate a replay at a big ground in the 3rd round?
If Boro go to a replay at Brighton, then there will be plenty of fans making their way down the country by any means possible.

Tell that to the lower league teams who get revenue from one replay against a high flyer. The revenue from one game can keep the wolf from the door for up to two seasons.

Boro were a lower league club for 20 years, I started watching half way through, and looking back the big games of that era were the cup games against top flight sides. Man City, Man Utd, replays and giant killing at Ayresome Park in front of full houses.

And that heartbreaking 2-2 at home to Everton (when they were really good)

Having said that, on balance I think they should be consigned to history now.

F@ck tradition, it's about playing fewer games and no competition for all but a few clubs.

Do as Sky say.

Don’t agree with replays tbh. The financial reward of getting through to the next round should outweigh the reward of another game. A match settled on the day surely gives a better chance of progressing than a minnow taking a club back to Old Trafford etc. If we draw tomorrow, who seriously will be glad of another match to play before the end of January, not me.

Another football fan wanting fewer games?

What is it these days, all business, no pleasure?

Bieng in the FA cup basically brings one extra game a month. Usually due to a league fixture change. You play that midweek or on a sat if you are both out.

I don't get the whole fixture conjestion line. These players with the odd bit of rotation should be able to handle a extra game. Ok traveling away on a Tues or Wed night for a replay ain't ideal. Yet it shouldn't scupper a season.

I love the domestic cups. I mean we've had some epic times from Everton multiple replays (one of the best Everton sides ever) to knocking UTD and Spurs out last season.

I'm sure Coburn will remember that night for the rest of his life.

Yep some of my greatest memories have been FA Cup and League Cup games. Experiences I will treasure and remember forever. Our European adventures started with the League Cup. In fact if I cast my mind back to a thread a few weeks ago when people voted for their moments of the season most voted the Man U and Tottenham victories as the best of the season.

I very much doubt that Rob, maybe a coach or two from the Ra Ra’s and the usual southern based contingent for a midweek 3rd round game on the south coast, to be honest this season we could do without a cup run.

Well three for my household will go to any replay. And look forward to it. As somebody put succinctly further up the thread we aren't scheduled many games this month to worry about congestion. Bring it on.
