Film better than the book

I will give you The Godfather, the book just wasn't as good as the film in my opinion.

Have you come across any?

Goodfellas (the film does a good job of glamorising an unsavoury character)

American psycho (the inane descriptions and obsessions of the main character are almost unreadable IMO, but work well in the film, especially with Bale’s acting, one of his best roles)

The Shining (Kubrick’s a genius)

Lord of the Rings

I tend to agree with that. There's a lot of self-indulgent digression in the books..

I don't agree about The Godfather; It's different, but there are somethings I preferred in the book.

Blade Runner is a good shout.

Not many I'd imagine, but 2001 definitely.
Um. The book came out after the film; it had been written concurrently with the making of the film and some of the plot points are different. The real inspiration is a Clarke short story from the fifties called The Sentinel. Sorry, I'm a 2001 nerd!

My nom for a recent film would be The Martian. The book is incredibly technical.
