Flu Years Eve

Had a bit of a tickly cough for a few days. It was a bit uncomfortable but nothing I couldn’t manage and was able to sleep ok.

Last night I got whacked - headache, sneezing fits, streaming nose.
Absolute nightmare sleeping. I was up around a dozen times with the sneezing.

For those in a similar state - take it easy (little option btw).

I hope you can all get through this evening as well as possible.

And let’s share a thought for those who will find this evening (for whatever reason) a struggle.

Well said.
There are many out there who, for all sorts of reasons, another year ahead is nothing to celebrate.
My thoughts are with them.

There seems to be a lot of it going around, take it easy and dose yourself up with flu remedies.

Had the flu for the first time in years, bloody awful. 3 nights of feverish sleep.
Luckily it came between Burnley away and Xmas eve so nothing really spoilt.
(Had the flu Jab in October).

I have had a Covid type viral infection for over two weeks now. On my second batch of antibiotics. It’s hammered my chest, throat, ears and sinuses. First time I have missed a home Boxing Day match since I was in the Forces. Crap festive season, haven’t had a drink yet. Looking forward to my first drink after the meds have finished.
Feel for anyone who is feeling crook at this time.

Exactly the same as me, been in bed for over 2 weeks now, since the first day I got back in the UK from work abroad. Really have never felt so bad, finally got antibiotics so hoping they kick in and I can at least have a few days with kids before I go back.

Antibiotics don't work for viruses do they ?

No mate, but if you contract an infection in addition to the virus, which is very common as a side effect, then antibiotics will help to combat the infection. I have had a course of steroids and two lots of antibiotics, one for a chest infection and the other for my sinuses, ears and throat.

Sounds similar to what I caught that ruined my last leave 😔

I have what feels like a very weird flu. Sneezing without blocked nose. Thickly irritating cough, Sore throat that changes location and feels lower down than a normal one somehow, bad acid reflux, headaches, tiredness and weak/dizzy. Been ****.

Yeah that's what I've got, secondary infection on me lung. It absolutely knacks 😭

I've had it and it's almost cleared up now after the weeks.

Felt the same a covid, but wasn't, according to the test at least, which is probably right because it seems it has swept around the world from what I've read.

I think a flu epidemic was predicted due to lock down wasn't it?

I started with this Christmas Eve. I've never ever claimed to have the flu, even when I've had the worst of colds, but I know I've definitely got it now. Never had such a bad week. Thought I'd turned the corner yesterday afternoon but then had an awful night. Barely slept. Had a few really bad nights but that was the worst. Dreading going to bed tonight.

It's a horrible virus that's going around, my sympathies for anyone currently struggling with it.

I've lost my sense of taste and smell - coughing & bouts of sneezing which is just about all the symptoms I have (and grateful it isn't worse) if it gets no worse and I can fight it off I'll be doing well in building up natural immunity so here's to that!

Exactly.
I went through a phase between the ages of 14 and mid twenties where any cold I caught went straight to my chest and caused a chest infection. After a couple of years a locum doctor eventually told me that some scarring left on my lung from when I caught pneumonia as a 5 year old (which kept me in the old Middlesbrough general for a couple of days) made me susceptible to chest infections off of colds.

Can spot them coming a mile off now, cigs taste different, cravings for fruit (think that's my body clamouring for more vitamin C because it knows what's coming) and only feeling normal when I'm in the shower. The antibiotics the doc prescribes are a steroid which bat the infection straight off.

Felt like **** for ten days now. Sure I’ll be ok to go back to work on Tuesday 😩

Still hauled my diseased ass to Blackburn. Loved it. Still feel shyte
