My Boro Debut

Hopefully you will all be interested in our new book, published by Billingham independent publishers 6e called My Boro Debut.

Written by fans, for fans My Boro Debut features over 150 Boro fans recounting the story of their first ever Boro match. The game that in so many cases got them hooked.

The memories start in the immediate post war period of the 1940s and flow right through to the Wembley play off final under Aitor Karanka in 2015. As this is a debut we invited several former Boro players to recount their first time of pulling on a Boro shirt Jim Platt, Bernie Slaven, Billy Ashcroft, Garys Hamilton and Gill, Peter Brine and Andy Campbell.
Fans include perhaps higher profile types Mark Benton, Harry Pearson, Clem, Mackenzie Thorpe, Neil Grainger, Bob Fischer and Daniel Gray. Well over 150 memories in all, in their own words. From trackless trolley buses to the scent of Bovril and piped tobacco. The splendour of the green, green pitch of home bathed in a floodlight glow.

From Ayresome Park to the Riverside. Often a family odyssey, handing down the baton between generations. Boro is in their blood.

The cover photo was taken at Ayresome in the 90s by When Saturday Comes and Football League photographer Paul Thompson who also talks about his first game inside.
You can pre-order here and bag your copy before it arrives from the printers on 20th November.

Brilliant Rob well done, hope it sells well, I can see plenty of older parents getting one for Xmas, don't know if my kids read this board though

I would love to put a Boro book together somehow

Book review from Heritage Unlocked
"Going to the football match has been one of the favourite pastimes since Middlesbrough’s days as a Victorian Ironopolis and attending a Boro match for the very first time has often proven to be the start of a lifelong relationship full of excitement, jubilation and often despair. Robert Nichols’ new edited collection of supporter memories of their first Boro match provides a welcome journey down memory lane that spans a bygone era of standing on the terraces of Ayresome Park to recent recollections of the Riverside Revolution and its unprecedented highs and lows....."
