Tom Dumoulin has announced he is taking a break from cycling indefinitely. Could be getting out permanently.

He always strikes me as an intelligent and articulate man and I wish him well.
As a point of pure speculation, do we think the rise of Roglic, and the possibility of others like Kuss and even Oomen pushing themselves further up the pecking order, may have influenced his decision?

Has injury got the best of him.
30 is a good innings though he has at least two or three years potentially left at the top?

Oh at least that. Not sure his injury was his excuse but I do think Tommyplus point is a good one and that the younger generation are now going to dominate the GTs.

10-15 years ago he would be considered to be just entering his prime! Cycling evolving into a young man's game these day though. I suspect that it's hard to motivate yourself to battle through the injury rehabilitation just to carry water bottles (hyperbole) for Primoz Roglic, especially if you are used to being the undisputed leader as Dumoulin was at Sunweb for many years.

Big loss for Jumbo. Great soldier to have when the going gets tough. Realisation that he won't be Vismas top guy this season maybe giving him food for thought.

I think Tom's had issues with his head judging by comments and interviews over the years. I don't know if he actually suffers from depression, but he wouldn't be the first. He's a deep thinker as mentioned earlier which is not necessarily an advantage at this level of the sport.
